Jinks Thanks for all the info on Jacob PATE. I am not convinced that Jacob PATE is Jesse's father, but it is possible. Just haven't convinced myself of it yet. Jacob says in the census's that he was born in VA. Jesse says he was born in Buncumbe, NC. The road from VA to NC is one other names in my family have made, so that is still okay. You have Jacob listed in the IA census in 1840-1850. He is also there in 1860, in Raglan, Harrison, IA, pg 780. He states his age as 70. In the 1870 IA census, Jacob is listed as 81 yrs, Emily is 58, and there are still children at home. Other Pates, who seem to be his children are living nearby. In 1870, the township boundaries may have changed or he moved to Clay Twp, Harrison, IA (pg 25). Jacob gives his age over the census years so that appears he must have been born between 1789-1792, or thereabout. Jesse was born in 1814. So Jacob was probably between 22-25 yrs when Jesse was born. If you look in Sagamon Co, IL after 1820, Jesse, Riley, Wm, and Redding PATE are all their voting. I don't know what happened to Redding PATE. You don't have any info on these PATEs do you? As for Jesse PATE...he is in JoDavies Co, IL (The Territory) mining until 1836 and moved to Jackson Co, IA not far from JoDavies Co. His two children George Washington PATE was born in 1837 and is considered to be if not the first white child born there, then as close as you can get to it. There was a daughter, Lorinda, b. 1839. She is my gr gr grandmother. I am not sure when Jesse died, but it was before Apr 1846 when Lorinda married Harrison Huling. This was the census you couldn't quite make out. His last name somestimes is listed as Hulin. Other PATE researchers have tried to steer me to a Wm PATE who was from TN as Jesse, Redding, Wm and Riley's father. There are a lot of PATEs in southern IL in the 1820's-1830's. Thanks for the wedding date of Emily and Jacob. Let me know what you think or if you have any other ideas. Carol
