My brick wall is still standing - Jesse PATE, my 3gr grandfather. b. @1814 in Buncombe, NC Jesse came to Southern Illinois before 1836. In Macon County, IL, where he had lived for several years before 1836, he married Loucretia EDWARDS. Her parents were Jonas and Dorothea Jones EDWARDS who were also from NC. Jesse and Loucretia, and the Edwards family move to JoDavies County, IL to work the mines. From there they all relocate to the Jackson Co, IA territory and becomes one of its first residents in 1838.
