WASHINGTON, LARRY J. Age 63, of Birmingham, AL passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. He was educated in the Bessemer School System and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Larry moved to Hartford, Connecticut where he lived for many years. He moved back to Birmingham, Alabama in 1990. Larry was preceded in death by his dear daughter, Laquicca; parents Elizabeth and George Hicks, Sr.; and brother, George Hicks, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters Angela and Gloria; son Larry Jr.; five sisters, Jacqueline H. Presswood, Ann Robinson, Joyce Hicks and Valerie (Hayward) Curry all of Bessemer, AL, Teresa (George) Payton of Powder Springs, GA; brother, Nathaniel (Deloris) Hicks of Jonesboro, GA; two aunts, Ester Cade and Mary Lee Pate both of Las Vegas, NV; two uncles, Elmore (Emma) Hicks of Wichita Falls, TX and Roosevelt (Hattie) Hicks of Bessemer, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside service at The National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama, Friday, October 26, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Alfonza January Officiating. Larry's family would like to thank the staff at VA's Safe Harbor and New Beacon Hospice, especially Barbara Brewer for her loving care during Larry's illness.
