Mary Lou Pate, 78, of Beardstown, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Heritage Health in Mount Sterling. She was born April 23, 1934, in Nortonville, the daughter of Carl C. and Bertha Henrietta Friend Birdsell. She married Roy R. Pate on Feb. 11, 1950, in Cass County, and he preceded her in death Sept. 9, 2010. Surviving are her children, Carol Shilling of Canton, Roy (wife, Dixie) Pate of Creve Couer and David (wife, Kathy) Pate of Beardstown; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Birdsell of Chicago and Russell Birdsell of Sun City, Ariz.; and one sister, Kathy Smith of Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers; and four sisters. Mary was a member of Beardstown Church of the Nazarene. She was a devoted housewife who loved spending time with her family and going to church. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Beardstown Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. Memorials have been suggested to Beardstown Church of the Nazarene. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family at www.airsman-hires.com.
