John Philip Crandell born July 3, 1946 in Ann Arbor, MI, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2012, in Tucson, AZ. John loved the desert and considered himself a native after moving to Tucson with his family in 1947. After serving in the Army during the Viet Nam conflict, John worked for many years at Hughes Aircraft and retired from Raytheon. He loved to be in natural settings and was an enthusiastic hiker, camper, 4-wheel driver, biker and scuba diver. He was deeply happy to spend his last years in the home he built with his wife in the Santa Rita Mountains. John was a big guy with a bigger heart who loved to tell a good joke or a funny story. He leaves behind loving wife, Sandy West; children, Tom and Cathy Crandell; granddaughters, Kimberly Crandell and Riley Brown; sisters, Kay Bingham and Joan Pate along with a huge extended family and many friends. A Celebration of life party will be scheduled at a later date. The family suggests donations in John's name to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Arrangements by VISTOSO FUNERAL HOME.
