    3. Kenneth Pate MOREHEAD CITY Kenneth Ernest Pate, 63, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012. He was the son of the late Ernest C. Pate Jr., and Geraldine O'beary Pate. He was born March 30, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo., and lived in Greensboro, Wilson, Kinston, Greenville, and the Phillipines while his father was in foreign service. He attended NC State and lived in Raleigh before moving to Marion to raise his family with Kaye McIntosh. He was employed with the Department of Transportation, a right of Way Agent, and loved his job working outside in the North Carolina mountains. For 20 plus years he enjoyed coaching McDowell County youth in several sports, which had a great impact on the community. He also served as the voice of youth football for 10 years. In recent years, he also lived in Beaufort. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Zachary M. Pate. He is survived by son, Matthew C. Pate; daughter, Haley M. Pate, of Marion; brothers, Alan Pate and wife, Wanda, of Beaufort, and Steve Pate and wife, Lisa, of Willow Springs; grandchildren, Bridget and Zachary I. Pate, and Cali Mace; niece, Christina Pate; and nephew, Nicholas Pate. At his request, a service of rememberance will be held in Marion at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McDowell Youth Football in Marion, or Hospice of Carteret County PO Box 1619 Morehead City, NC 28557.
