He is survived by daughters, Jennifer and Sarah Pate of Roan Mountain, TN; mother, Ruth Brown Pate; father, John Edward Pate; brothers, Andrew (Marsha Cartwright) Pate and Kirby (JoAnne Gessler) Pate; nieces, Charlotte and Mary Eloise Pate; nephews, Newton, Charles and John Pate, all of Nashville; uncle, Travis Brown of Fort Myers, FL; and many friends and Colleagues in the music industry and among local outdoor enthusiasts. A Nashville native, Mr. Pate graduated from the University School of Nashville and Belmont University, majoring in the music business in his high school years, he was a percussionist in the Nashville Youth Orchestra, and later played drums and guitar in many local clubs. He was an avid outdoorsman, naturalist and expert in rappelling and caving. Also an EMT, he was often called upon to participate in cave rescue operations. Combining his musical interests and technical skills, he developed a career ! of staging outdoor musical events, and was in California at the time of his death to stage a performance by Trisha Yearwood. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 2 p.m., from St. David's Episcopal Church, 6501 Pennywell Drive, with Rev. Eric Greenwood officiating. Private Interment is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to the Nashville Grotto, Paul Pate Memorial, PO Box 23114, Nashville, TN 37202. He was a native of Russellville, AL, son of the late Thomas and Lucy Turbyfill Pate, retired employee of Ferro Fiberglass and a Baptist. He is survived by his wife, Janet Marie Sanford Pate; three sons, George Thomas Pate, Jr., Radio City, AL, Robert E. Pate, Franklin, KY, and Terry Pate, Nashville, TN; one brother, Bill Shedd, Lawrenceburg; four sisters, Elizbeth Rickhard, Russellville, AL, Ruth Wynn and Vera Mae Shelton both of Leoma and Jeanette Hoar, Lawrenceburg; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive him. Services for Mr. George Thomas Pate will be held Friday, November 15, 2002 at 11 a.m. in Pettus-Turnbo Chapel with Bros. Creg Lee and Jewell Travis officiating.
