Carol, There seem to be several references to Joseph but the last is 1800. Then in 1808 he appears (and I don't find him again in Greene) in Northern Alabama and remember that a lot of Greene and Washington Co people flowed into this portion of Alabama , the Mississippi territory--if it is the same man. I have wondered because the Stephen Pate will of Madison Co Al (same location) refers to "my friend Mathew". Note the two "Joseph" mentions is Mrs Patton's note 1) thr first of 1800 550 acres of land on the Chucky-CPT Kesterson's Co 2) Mathew Pate with Charles and Joseph Pate show in 1800 in the Chucky River Tax District of Gr Co CPT WM White's CO. Note that she also lists Mathew Pate with Jeremiah and Thomas Pate show with 500 acres on Chucky River Gr TN 1798 CPT Wm White's Co. Two questions What do we know of Charles??? Henderson and Elizabeth Pate Clark name their first child Charles P. And why are you sure that Mathew Jermiah and Thomas are brothers? I would think that there is a good likelyhood that Joseph is not Mathew (although the South has a tradition of naming sons after Fathers and then calling the son the middle name !.) Thoughts Meredith. Does make me wonder on how many Pate lines there are in Greene Co Tn in the late 1790s!!!----- Original Message ----- From: CSWR (Carol) To: dsheridan1@ec.rr.com Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2003 12:07 PM Subject: PATE, Joseph Hello Meredith....... Wondering if you can place this "Joseph" referred to below? I have the horrendous thought that Mathew and Joseph could be the same person? I realize that Thomas and Jeremiah are Mathew's brothers. Matthew Pate, In the yr 1785 shows with 375 acs of land on the Nolichucky River, Capt Henry Conway's Co, State of Franklin todays Gr.
