On a recent trip to Grovehill, Alabama and the Courthouse , I found documents that relate to someone I believe to be my gggreat-grandfather, John Pate. As nearly as I can determine, looking at the 1830 Clarke CO, AL census, he would have been 60-70 years of age, making him born between 1760 -70. I have documents showing that Thomas Moore, my ggreatgrandfather, married Winneford Pate in 1832 and he is buying up River land from the Heirs of John Pate dec'd on 3/5/1836: Mason Tyson and Elizabeth his wife, Thomas C. Johnson and wife Rebecca Tyson. It is my belief that these persons are sisters to Winneford Pate because in 1850 census, after Thomas Moore dies, Winneford is living in Marengo CO. next door to Thomas & Rebecca Johnson with two of the Tyson children in her household. Their father having passed away in 1837. That is not all, Thomas Franklin married a Mary Pate in 1819 in Clarke CO, AL and the Moores and the Franklins are very close families, showing as neighbors on at least two or more census.' I know that her marriage certificate says her father is Asa pate. But I believe that there is some relation between ASA and JOHN Pate. Either they are the same person or perhaps brothers. (My Great-grandmother Catherine C. Franklin was the daughter of Thomas B. Franklin and his second wife Mary McCorquodale and she married Thomas & Winneford Moore's son William L Moore.) Can anyone add to this information. Erlyne Moore Sherrill
