I posted this information a couple of years ago and have exhausted most of the ways to locate him. Jinks has looked a few times and thought it would be good to re-visit, maybe someone can help now. My grandfather Robert Harvey Pate was b.12-22-1876 in Wv. He married Gillie Paul, his father was Jabe B.L. Pate b. 3-3-1847, in Va., his mother was Martha Perkins b. 1848-1850. Robert and Gillie had 11 children. About 1930 he left his family and his farm to find work. Some older aunts and uncles indicated that he might have called from Kansas or Missouri (Kansas City). There was also a rumor that he had called from Canada. If anyone has found a Pate about that age and cannot connect him to a family or if their family started about 1930 or later please contact me. Thank you Bob Pate + rpate@bellsouth.net
Bob: Robert H Pate age 54 and family were enumerated in Curry, Putnam Co West Virginia in the 1930 census. The enumeration was made 19 Apr 1930. Citation: Enumeration District 40-5, sheet 7B, Curry Twsp, site 128/128. I'd say that he was in Curry, WV for at least the first quarter of 1930. His occupation was listed as Farmer, apparently self employed on a truck farm. Here is a wild lead for you- The English and Canadians had decennial censuses, BUT they made them, not on the decade year, e.g., 1850, but on the first year, e.g., 1851. I think that the pattern has continued. So there MAY be a Canadian census for 1931. IF so and IF it is available and IF Robert H Pate was in Canada and IF he was enumerated, you MAY be able to trace him. Do you know if he continued working at farming or related work?
