The following was recently posted to the PATE message board at Ancestry.com I am searching for information related to the family of Elijah and Elizabeth (unknown)Pate. Elijah Pate was born around 1820 in South Carolina. Elizabeth was born around 1822 in South Carolina. Elizabeth Pate died June 30,1906 in Eva Springs, Florida. They had at least nine children: David Elijah Bimilec Pate, born circa 1837;Robert,born 1840;Mary,born,1844;Jamesborn,1846;Margaret,born,1849. They were born in Butler County, Alabama. Their other children:William, born 1854;Elizabeth,born 1856;Lewis,born,1858;and Mary,born1859 were born in Burnt Corn, Monroe County,Alabama. I would like information related to the descendants of Elijah and Elizabeth Pate. I posted the following reply- In the 1860 census of Monroe Co AL, page 859, Burnt Corn Precinct, site 700/636, there is a Pate household as follows- Elijah Pate 36 SC Elizabeth Pate 24 SC William Pate 6 AL Elizabeth Pate 4 AL Louis Pate 2 AL Mary Pate 2m AL This family is Elijah Pate and Martha Elizabeth Gilland who were married in Fayette Co GA 4 Oct 1850. This family will appear again in the 1870 census of Monroe Co AL and the 1880 census of Baltrop Co TX In the 1860 census of Mobile Co AL, page 741, Ward 7 Mobile, site 632/754 there is the following family Elizabeth J 37 SC David Benlice 17 AL Robert F 16 AL Mary J 15 AL Margaret 13 AL The enumerator recorded the surname for this family as PAGE, in point of fact it was PATE. Elijah Pate, the father of David, Robert, Mary J and Margaret, apparently died just prior to the 1850 census.
