Stephen Pate b. ca 1753, d. 1817 Madison Co, AL md: Unknown Known Children: James Pate b. c 1778 md Eliza W -- Polly Pate, b. c 1793 md James Milliken Stephen Pate's will is probated in Madison Co, MISSISSIPPI TERRITORY in 1817 dated 28 Apr 1817; He mentions his wife (not named); Son, James Pate; Son-in-law, James Milliken; and 5 younger children (not named). Who are these 5 younger children? How, or is he related to the Dyer Co, TN Pate's?? Jinks Pate Lee
Dear Jink and Pate List , The James Pate who is married to Eliz. W and eldest son of the 1817 Stephen pate will of 1817 is firmly in Dyer Co by 1830. He has in his family structure in the 1850 census (Dyer Co, Tn )Stephen Pate bn@1826 who is listed as "an idiot" and bn in Alabama. He also has with him Polly Ann (Mary Ann Pate) who is known by the court in 1851 as the daughter of Stephen D. Pate along with Mathew Pate ( two of the eight children.)She is the wife of William Miller of Dyer Co, Tn. Land deeds in Dyer Co show that in 1840 that in the 9th range that James Pate, Jr., pg 80 has 199 acres in the 2nd range by John J. Crockett's ext. Dec 19, 1940. Andrew Jackson Pate (son of Stephen Pate and Jane Milliken, who married in Madison Co Al and had AJP there)entered by James Pate 9th range by James Pate (no Jr.) entry #134, Dec 19, 1840. Then James Rucker enters his land by James Pate, Jr and Andrew Jackson Pate. All of these are in the 2nd section, 9th range. For some reason the only son of Mathew Pate and Jane Milliken Pate (widow of Stephen Pate)(the elder not the Mathew Pate who in 1851 tries to establish his relationship with Stephen Pate as a son along with Mary Ann Pate Miller 2 of 8) E. Cain Pate is with my direct line Elizabeth Pate Clark(who marries Henderson Clark in 1819 Madison Co Tn and moves with Zach andSusan Pate Rucker, Stephen and Jane Pate, Mathew Pate and Older Woman-most likely his mother by age, and James Pate to Dyer Co by 1830 tp be cpimted by census). E. Cain Pate's family firmly state that "he was the only son of Jane Milliken and Mathew Pate". The reference for this was a VERY thorough genealogist who was a straight line grandaughter. I find it almost impossible to believe that the Dyer Co Pate families are not related to the Stepehen and Mathew Pate who are mentioned in the 1817 will. Meredith PS Perhaps the key is finding the firm identification of the children who are with Jane Pate and James Pate in the 1830 census. (AND it wouldn't hurt to identify the sticks in the Mathew Pate and James Pate families as well. MAS) Does anyone know where the people in James Pate's familiy in the 1850 will are buried? We know that Mary Ann Pate and Col George B. Pate are in the Miller cemetery. (Col George B. was married to Mariah Miller, sister of Wm Miller.MAS) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jinks Lee" <jinksp@juno.com> To: <PATE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2003 4:19 PM Subject: [PATE] Brick Walls: Stephen Pate (M16) > Stephen Pate b. ca 1753, d. 1817 Madison Co, AL > md: Unknown > > Known Children: > James Pate b. c 1778 > md Eliza W -- > Polly Pate, b. c 1793 > md James Milliken > > Stephen Pate's will is probated in Madison Co, MISSISSIPPI > TERRITORY in 1817 dated 28 Apr 1817; He mentions his > wife (not named); Son, James Pate; Son-in-law, James > Milliken; and 5 younger children (not named). > > Who are these 5 younger children?
