If parents named their children after fathers, then this makes sense as to why Elijah named his son Bimilec. He (Bimilec) is also refered to as David Elijah B(?) Pate. I have seen his name as David E B Pate. He is the brother of Robert Francis Pate (Butler Co.). David moved to Pensacola and as far as I can tell he had no children. Mary maried Courtland Elwood and resided in Mobile. Mary and Courtland must have died, as one Pensacola census has their child living with David and his mother Elizabeth. The two other children James and Margaret died (I assume as children), I have no info on Chiner Clements. The first page (Cover page?), second and third page are introductory and the fourth page is what you refer to below as page four. That is all, but is identical to your description. The document title, in block, is: Levi Pate (c1790--c1870) of Kershaw County, South Carolina His Ancestors and Some of His Descendants A Family History and Genealogy By Preston Earl Newman 1993 It is on page 4 of this document where Newman provides his conclusions regarding the children of Bennett Pate b ca 1755, i.e., several daughters and 3 sons: Abimilec md Susannah Brimley, Samuel Pate (III) md Tirzah Acrage (Akridge) and Joel md Elizabeth Sloan. My opinion, based on my own research, Newman's conclusion are reasonable. I do wish that he would have discussed his evidence in more detail and provided citations. Newman indicates that Abimlec had relocated to Butler Co AL by 1830. He (Newman) must be relying on deeds, bible or other records. There were not Pate families enumerated in Butler Co Al in 1830. The first Pate enumeration in Butler Co AL was in 1840 - Elijah Pate - 1 male under 5, 1 male 20-30, and 2 females 15-20. 1850 Butler Co AL Page 201, Beat 3, site 357/357 ELIZABETH PATE 28 W/F SC 1822 BENILEE PATE 13 W/M AL 1837 ROBERT PATE 10 W/M AL 1840 MARY PATE 6 W/F AL 1844 JAMES PATE 4 W/M AL 1846 MARGARET PATE 6m W/F AL 1850 CHINER CLEMENTS 4 W/M AL 1846 There are two (assumptions when you do it, conclusions when I do it) assumptions that some folks make about this family. 1st some assume that Elizabeth was the widow of Elijah (from the 1840 census) and 2nd some assume that Robert Pate here is Robert Francis Pate. I am troubled by both of these propositions, but I do accept that they MAY be correct. Perhaps I have mixed two lines here, but perhaps they MAY be one. Max, may I ask a favor of you? To the extent possible, could we have these exchanges on PATE-L so that others might enter into the discussion? You list 10 lines, but there are 7 individuals. Thomas I Pate is Thomas Ivey Pate, son of Ephraim Ivey and nephew to Peebles Ivey and Lydia Pate Ivey. He used the Pate surname until the publication of his father's LWT in Warren Co GA. There is one unique relationship between 4 of them. Edmund/Edmond, Edward/Edward, Peterson, and Thomas Ivey Pate were all born in Southampton Co VA. There is a possibility that Edmund/Edmond and Edward Pate were brothers. Until I received this note I have never read or heard any mention that Joel Bennett Pate 1806-aft 1870, who married Elizabeth Sloan 1828 in Thomas Co GA, was a younger brother to Abimileck Pate. Anything is possible, but I've never heard that one before. Where did you run across that information?
