    1. [PATE] John bee log PATE
    2. Janice Pate
    3. Carol, Jesse Pate who was born in Buncombe Co. NC (now Yancey) in 1820 was my great-grandfather. Jesse Pate spent most of his adult life in Cherokee County, NC. He was the son of John PATE (aka RANDOLPH) and Fanny Barrett. The Internet is full of erroneous information on this entire family line. One individual began calling him "Bee Log," even though he lived at Jack's Creek, and now it is perpetuated at the speed of "copy & paste." Likewise, another of the myths perpetuated about John is that he was an illegitimate child--his father was a BAKER and mother a RANDOLPH. There is no PROOF that can substantiate that claim. In John PATE's (aka RANDOLPH) War of 1812 pension file is an affidavit stating that John PATE was also known throughout the county as John RANDOLPH "...after the name of his step-father." Documented information on this John PATE shows: 1. He married Fanny Barrett on June 3, 1808 at "Bee Tree Church" - War 1812 Pension File 2 He was enumerated, as John PATE, in the 1830, 1850, 1860, and 1870 census. 3. He served in the War of 1812 as John RANDOLPH for which he received Land Warrants. 4. As John PATE he was one of the oldest volunteers in the C.S.A. having enlisted at the age of 75 - Compiled Service Records of NC. 5. He was alive on 9 Aug 1872 - War 1812 Pension File My personal opinion of much of the Genealogical information available on the Internet - it isn't worth the paper it's written on. If no sources are listed-discard it. If sources are listed-check it. Over the years I have found that it is easier to climb a brick wall than to go on a wild goose chase. Happy Hunting, Janice Pate Please respect the privacy of other people; do not submit information on living individuals without their permission. _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam?
