    3. Jeremy: Do not confuse James Daniel Pate 15 Apr 1845-22 Jun 1917 and James David Pate 28 Jan 1817-28 Aug 1865. James Daniel Pate served in Company F, 25th GA Provost Guards and James David Pate served in Company E, 5th GA Reserves. James Daniel Pate received a pension for his Confederate service. The second wife of James Daniel Pate, Laura McKenzie McDonald, applied for and received a Widow's Pension for the Confederate service of James Daniel Pate. She was residing in Fulton Co GA at the time she applied. Copies of their respective applications are available at the GA State Archives in Atlanta. James David Pate and his wife Mary Jane "Jincy" Moore both died before the establishment of the Confederate Pension program in GA. Following is a summary of facts regarding James Daniel Pate drawn from my GedCom files. BTW the Mary Smith mentioned in this summary was probably a sister to the Jonathan Smith mentioned in the war time correspondence between Mary Jane "Jincy" Moore Pate and her husband, James David Pate.
