    3. Diana: I have some records for the Evergreen Cemetery in Ben Hill Co GA that seem to fit your line. There MAY be errors in the transcription of the dates but what I have- two double graves - MAXIE PATE --------05 Jan 1881-23 Aug 1956 ALMA PATE ---------21 Apr 1882-08 Jun 1949 JAMES D. PATE ---18 Jul 1891-18 Nov 1961 CASSIE C. PATE --26 May-1893-[19 Apr 1979] also have ARTHUR A PATE--07 Jun 1905-20 Nov 1970 RUFUS PATE ------06 Jul 1909 22 Aug 1973 JAMES E HIATT JR --30 Jun 1952-15 Aug 1954 perhaps son of VIRGINIA PATE HIATT [19 Sep 1911-17 Apr 1995]SSDI These dates are consistent with dates found in the GA death certificate index and the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) Given the fact that these graves seem to be in a family plot, I concluded that James D Pate 1891-1961 and Arthur A Pate 1905-1970 were sons of Maxie Pate 1881-1945 and Alma (?) Pate 1882-1849. Rufus Pate 1909-1973 also perhaps is a son of Maxie and Alma. I have a marriage record that seems to fit- [Maxie Pate md Alma Riddles 22 Mar 1903 Worth Co] and three census records that also seem to fit- 1910 Turner Co Enum Dist 173, sheet 14, Amboy, site 145/145 Maxie Pate-----29 W/M Head Md Farmer--GA/GA/GA 1881 Alma Pate------28 W/F Wife Md 7y 3/3-------GA/GA/GA 1882 Arthur Pate------6 W/M Son Sgl-----------------GA/GA/GA 1904 Minnie L Pate- 3 W/F Dau Sgl------------------GA/GA/GA 1907 Rufus Pate----8m W/M Son Sgl-----------------GA/GA/GA 1909 Married about 1903. 3 live births, 3 children still living Year of birth projected from stated age 1920 Turner Co Enum Dist 137, sheet 7A, Ashburn, 1624 GMD, site 151/162 Max Pate-------37 W/M Head ----------GA/US/US 1883 Alma Pate------36 W/F Wife------------GA/GA/GA 1884 Arthur Pate----15 W/M Son-------------GA/GA/GA 1905 Minnie Pate---13 W/F Dau--------------GA/GA/GA 1907 Rufus Pate-----10 W/M Son-------------GA/GA/GA 1910 Richard Pate--- 7 W/M Son------------GA/GA/GA 1913 Florence Pate- 5 W/F Dau--------------GA/GA/GA 1915 Frank Pate------ 3 W/M SON 3y 3m--GA/GA/GA 1917 Year of birth projected from stated age. 1930 Ben Hill Co Enum Dist 9-6, sheet 5a, Fitzgerald, site 85/100 Maxwell Pate---49 W/M Head Md @21 -GA/GA/GA 1881 Alma Pate--------48 W/F Wife Md @20--GA/GA/GA 1882 Florence Pate--15 W/F Dau Sgl------GA/GA/GA 1915 Frank Pate-------13 W/M Son Sgl------GA/GA/GA 1917 Jim Pate----------11 W/M Son Sgl------GA/GA/GA 1919 Nettie Pate------- 6 W/F Dau Sgl------GA/GA/GA 1924 Mary Riddles---65 W/F MNL Wd-------GA/GA/GA 1865 Maxie married at approximate age 21. Alma at approximate age 20. Mary Riddles was mother in law to Maxie (Maxwell). Maxwell is probably enumerator's take on Maxie. Going over all of this I see an error in my conclusions about James D Pate 1891-1961 being a son of Maxie and Alma Pate. Maxie Pate was clearly born about 1881. He had a son named James (Jim) whose birth appears to be about 1919 not 1891. Maxie Pate b abt 1881 married in 1903 did not have a son named James b abt 1891. The James D Pate 1891-1961 buried near Maxie Pate in Ben Hill County was not his son The Jim (James) Pate, age 11 b abt 1911, listed as a son of Maxie and Alma Pate in the 1930 census MAY PERHAPS be James Pate b 31 Aug 1918 d Apr 1986 [from SSDI]. He resided in Cordele, Crisp Co GA, at time of death. The GA Death certificate index has a James H Pate died 20 Apr 1986 in Dougherty Co GA residing in Crisp Co at time of death This appears to be James Hansel Pate b 31 Aug 1918 d 30 Apr 1986, per headstone in Arabi-Antioch cemetery in Crisp Co. James D Pate 1891-1961 bur Ben Hill Co GA near Maxie Pate 1881-1956 were not son and father. Were they perhaps brothers? I thought that the 1900 census of GA might yield some answers so I looked for a Maxie Pate b abt 1881 and did not find one. I looked for a James D Pate b abt 1891 and did not find him either. I did find three interesting households in Worth Co. Enum Dist 104, sheet 124, 1145 GMD, site 454/467 Jason M Pate (Head) b GA Aug 1858 Minnie E Pate (Wife) b GA May 1866 married for 18 years , abt 1882. I think that this is Jason Manasseh Pate Aug 1858-11 Jun 1930 who on 17 Jan 1883 in Worth Co GA married Minnie Emily Cone May 1866-11Nov 1930 Jason Manasseh Pate was a son of Maxie Pate and Kate Holt Enum Dist 10, sheet 30, 1145 GMD, site 564/577 Maxie Pate (Head) b GA Jan 1857 Mary J Pate (Wife) b GA Oct 1861 Lucy E Pate (Dau) b GA Aug 1877 I think that this is Maxie Pate Jr 24 Mar 1856-19 Jun 1932 his wife Mary Jane Philyaw 13 Nov 1860 - 15 Sep 1833 Maxie Pate (Jr) 1856-1932 was a son of Maxie Pate and Kate Holt next door at Enum Dist 10, sheet 30, 1145 GMD, site 565/578 James D Pate b GA Feb 1880 Sarah H Pate b GA Mar 1878 Eva Pate b GA Jun 1899 I think this is James Daniel Pate b Feb 1880 d ? and his wife Sarah H Simpson b Mar 1878 d ? James D Pate married Sarah H Simpson 8 Sep 1899 in Worth Co GA I think that he is James Daniel Pate son of Maxie Pate Jr and Mary Jane Philyaw. Turning again to the 1920 census of Turner Co GA we find Enum Dist 143, sheet 16A, Hobby, site 278/288 Maxie M Pate (head) b ca 1858 Mary Pate (wife) b ca 1848 Enum Dist 143, sheet 17A, Hobby, site 297/307 J Daniel Pate (head) b ca 1881 Sarah A Pate (wife) b ca 1881 Evey Pate (dau) b ca 1900 It would seem that Maxie Pate and Alma Riddles did not have a son named James Daniel Pate but Maxie Pate Jr and Mary Philyaw did.
