Several computer "worms", which attack Microsoft Windows based computers via a flaw in Windows operating system, began widespread circulation on the Internet May 1, 2004. All of these "worms" contain "Sasser". The variants are: -W32.Sasser.Worm -W32.Sasser.B.Worm -W32.Sasser.C.Worm -W32.Sasser.D.Worm It is important to understand these things about the "worms" -THEY DO NOT ENTER YOU COMPUTER BY E-MAIL OR E-MAIL ATTACHMENTS -THERE IS A WAY TO PREVENT ATTACK OR INFECTION -THERE IS A WAY TO REMOVE THE WORM IF IT HAS ENTERED YOUR COMPUTER If your computer is using Windows XP or Windows 2000- Go to http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp Follow the instructions: -To have your computer checked for infection. -To download any required security patch or update. -To remove infection by Sasser.Worm, B.Worm or C.Worm If your computer is using another Windows operating system, such as Windows 98- Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com Follow the instructions: -To scan for any "Critical Updates" available for your system -To install and activate any available "Critical Updates" If your computer has been infected by one of the Sasser worms there are removal tools available at: http://symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.removal.tool.html It is important that you have some type of virus protection software- -Installed and running on your computer and, -Updated as updates become available.
