Joel, don't know if I can help you or not but I can certainly confuse you. There was a Johanna Pate born 15 Sep 1856 in Cobden, Union County IL (died 8 Apr 1914 in Oklahoma) and she married Virgil Stewart Maddoz in 1879 in Milam County Texas. She was the second wife of Virgil Maddox. In 1880 Virgil and Johanna were living in Stephens County Texas and living next door to them was a William Pate, age 32, born in ILL and his wife was Susan, age 25 born in KY. I would almost bet that these two are siblings. At one time I believe but not proven that the Pate family was living near Hot Springs, AR and there was a half sister whose name was Mary Katherine Page but I have not proven that state either. How do I know this without proof? Virgil and Johanna Maddox are the greatgrandparents of my husband. One other clue for you on one census, I found Johanna listed as Josephine but that is not the name that her family (grandchildren, etc. used) If this help, let me know. ellen -------------- Original message from "Joel Pate" : -------------- > HELP in Oklahoma City, OK ! > Need help researching Martha Amanda Pate supposed b 22 Dec 1823 Butler Co AL, > married Rufus Alexander Fowler about 1840 in Butler Co AL and died 6 Jan 1862, > Smyrna, Milam Co TX. > > This and other information about Martha Amanda Pate (parents, sibs and bible > records) supposedly are detailed in a book - > Main Title: A History of the Fowler Family of Southeastern North Carolina. > Complied and Published by: Fowler, Richard Gildart. > Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN): 87-401578 > > I've located a copy in the library holdings of- > OKLAHOMA HISTORICAL SOCIETY > 2100 North Lincoln Boulevard > Oklahoma City, OK 73105 > (405) 522-5225 > > If any one has access to the OK Historical Society and could go there and > extract pertinent information, it would help very much and would be greatly > appreciated. > > If you have access to the book in your library and could help, that would be > super. > > Joel > > > >
