    3. While looking through the 1900 Yancey County, NC census I ran across a Pate family that I can’t identify. Hopefully some members of the list will be able to help. My first inclination was that Evelyn was Eveline Robertson Pate because of the similarity of the name. Eveline was the second wife of George Washington Pate. Further investigation shows: Ramseytown Township, Yancey County, North Carolina, Supervisor District #9, Enumeration District# 128. Visit # 201, Household # 203, Enumerated on 13 & 14 June 1900 by W. M. McIntosh Pate, George, Head, Male, June 1823, 76, married 29 years, NC/NC/NC Pate, Eveline, Wife, Female, May 1851, 49, married 29 years, NC/NC/NC, mother of 5 with 3 living. Pate, Merrit, Son, Male, June 1884, 15, Single, NC/NC/NC Pate, Martha J., Dau, Female, Apr 1881, 19, Single, NC/NC/NC Pate, Turner, Son, Male, May 1888, 12, Single, NC/NC/NC Eveline was 22 and George was 53 when they married in 1872. The numbers in the 1900 census are a reasonably close match. The loss of the 1890 census makes this a tough one for me. I cannot find either Evelyn Pate or Lucinda Pate in or near Yancey County in 1880. I did find a Lucinda Peid, born about 1871, in Beaufort, North Carolina, however she is of a different race. William Wilson creates another set of problems that do not need to be addressed here. Am I overlooking something? Does anyone know who Evelyn Pate is or her maiden name. Does anyone have other ideas?
