Carol - thanks for posting the info on James M Pate - since I have connections to the Danville, IL Pate's just wondered where he might fit in, or if anyone else may have information on him. Wouldn't it have been nice if they had given the names of his stepfather and his mother's sister, etc. I found him in 1880 Vermilion Co, IL Nathaniel Henderson age 71 - harness maker b. IN/SC/SC Cirena Henderson age 49 - wife b. VA/VA/VA Ann Henderson age 15 - dau James Pate age 24 - son in law/harness maker b. IA/--/-- Miriam Pate age 20 - dau b. IL/IN/VA Allen L Pate age 3 - grandson b. IL/IA/IL So it appears it was his father-in-law who was the harness maker rather than step father. In 1880 Pope Co, IL James Pate age 46 b. KY/IN/IN Myra Pate age 38, b. IL/NC/VA (they have been married 23 yrs, had 3 children/3 still living) Homer G Pate age 19 - son Karl Pate age 13 - son Addie Pate age 22 - dau in law (md 2 yrs/1/1) Harlean L Pate age 7 mos - grand dau Some time back you posted the marriage record of Allen L Pate b. 1 Sep 1879, son of Milton James Pates and Myram Henderson married 1 Jun 1898 Addie Chrisman, dau of John Wm Chrisman & Emma Santy So Addie must be Allen L Pate's wife - but where is he? Or could he be the child listed as Roddie?? It shows Roddie had a dau, Halene -- Jinks
Hi Jinks... This writing entered and submitted by Corinne Fulkerson for (Pope County Historical Society) is one of many biographies that were brought together and published in 1986 - the first of three volumes (others published later). I copied it exactly as it appears, hopefully with no mistakes. But I think it is apparent that his biological mother married Mr. WILSON in Hardin County. YES, I wish at least that we could glean his mother's maiden name. I will try to look further for a WILSON marriage in Hardin County. It would be better if I could dig further and try to find the maiden name of Lewis PATE's wife, who is biologically his Aunt. So far, I have found no PATE marriages in Pope County between 1813-1897. However, there are two early marriage records for Massac County, IL which are probably not related to the subject: Joseph B. PATE, marr to Martha COLE, Jan 20, 1865, pg. #424 Rutha A. PATE, marr to George R. ENNIS, May 13, 1866, Pg. #536 ---------from "THE PROMULGATOR, (Massac County) Thursday, May 17, 1866. Vol. 1, No. 30: "MARRIED: In this city on last Sunday morning, the 13th inst., at the residence of Parson ANDREW's, by the Rev. W.H. SCOTT, George ENNIS to Miss Annie PATE. *The bio-article states specifically that James was born in Jasper Co, KY; but the 1880 Census shows IA - Iowa? (or could it be Indiana?). *The bio-article says that his "stepmother" (is this his biological mother or adopted mother?) remarried "after his stepfather died.". It seems that the "stepmother" is Lewis PATE's wife, or James' biological Aunt. From what I can see, Roddie (1877) is a male, son of James and Myra, who eventually moved to Seattle and married a second time there. Addie , daughter in law to James and Myra, is Addie CHRISMAN, daughter of John W. Chrisman and Emma Santy, who marr. Allen L. Pate. The article says they had "three children" : Roddie 1877, Homer 1888, and Karl 1886....Allen L. was b.. abt 1876, but he apparently was with Nathaniel and Cirena Henderson in Vermillion County, IL with his parents, James and Myra, during the 1880 Census. ---In the 1900 Pope County, IL Federal Census, Grand Pier Precinct, ED#61: household 42/42 PATE, James May 1854, 46, 23 yrs marr. KY/IN/IN Farmer Myra (3 ch/3 living), Nov 1861, 38, 23 yrs mar, IL/NC/VA Homer G., Son, Nov 1880, 19, IL/KY/IL Farm Labor Karl, son, Aug 1886, 13, IL/KY/IL Farm Labor Adda (2 ch/ 1 liv), DLaw, March 1878, 22, marr. 2 yrs, IL/KY/OH Halean L., GDau, Oct 1899, 7/12 (7 mos), IL/IL/IL * I have no idea why Allen is not listed - could he have been in military service? In the Pope County Marriage Records Books: (Book Register A-1, pg. 4, #2336) - 1st marr for both on June 01, 1898 PATES/PATE, Allen L., age 22, b. Danville, IL, residing Herod, Pope Co, IL, Farmer ............PATES, Milton James and HENDERSON, Myram married to: CHRISMAN, Addie, age 21, b. Pope Co, IL, residing Herod, Pope Co, IL .............CHRISMAN, John William and SANTY, Emma by I.M. Blanchard, M.G.; witness: Florence Santy & E.A.T. Carter at Mrs. Leona Santy's res., Herod, Pope Co, IL. Yes, it says that his stepfather was a harness maker and that James followed that trade. Nice to hear from you......
