Harris Pate, tenth offspring of Aseneath and Willoughby Pate, was born in 1825 in Richmond County, North Carolina near the present day town of Gibson which is now a part of Scotland Co., NC. His first wife was Margaret Adams, daughter of John P. and Julia NEWTON Pate. Harris is buried in the Hubbard Cememtery in Marlboro Co., SC along with his second and third wives, but Margaret is nowhere to be found. Does anyone know where she is buried? -- ------------------ Joseph 'Joe' Scarborough http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=jhscarborough http://home.earthlink.net/~jhscarborough/ancestry/
Joe: Some speculation-- Margaret Adams Pate died between Jun 1865 (birth of son Claudius B Pate) and Jun 1869 (conception of Henry Pate b Mar 1870). Henry Pate being the son of Harris Pate and his second wife Mary (Francis) Odom. The Harris Pate family was well established in the Adamsville Crossroads-Bennettville area in Marlboro Co SC as evidenced by the 1860 and 1870 census records. It would stand to reason that Margaret Adams Pate is buried somewhere in Marlboro Co SC. Her Adams and Newton families were in that area so there would have been no reason to take her outside the area for burial. My best GUESS is that she is buried in an unmarked grave, perhaps in an Adams plot, at some local church in the Adamsville area. If you knew what church Harris Pate attended 1860-1870, it might be helpful.
