    3. About posting other items (IE: photos, deeds, other record) someone could set up account/blog on WordPress.com It is easy to use, can collaborative, and has a search option in widgets. Just an idea for those wanting to post more/different item related to PATE research. -- Cathy Ann Abernathy On Sun, Jan 13, 2013 at 10:14 PM, <n5bry@aol.com> wrote: > > > Janice, > > To say that the 4,524 e-mails currently lodged on my menu are at times - overwhelming - is an understatement and opening my e-mail to find many obituaries awaiting my attention can also be overwhelming at first. However, I have clicked my mouse on each of your obituaries' subject line to check location and sometimes find dates. Most are of no value to me at present and I delete them, knowing they are safely stored on the Pate Rootsweb website should I later find I need some of them after all. The possibility of value to another researcher, now or later, is huge if the researcher is looking for that one small connection that might be found in one of the obituaries. > > I am truly sorry to see your gracious, time-consuming efforts have not been appreciated as valuable research resouces for individuals perhaps not yet searching or do not have access to obituaries. > > Perhaps we should consider setting up a special link to deposit obituaries in a special file, then notify the Pate List when particular state, area or time frames have been posted for anyone who is interested to go check them out. This would not overwhelm the users of the main Pate Rootsweb.com website who apparently have no interest in obituaries yet those desperate for a connection could peruse the dedicated obituary section of the Pate website at their leisure. > > My husband's Pate family is small, not much known about them but some years back a very kind lady, through the Findagrave group, sent me the name of a person who had been gathering information on people from this very small OK community that we were interested in. We went to see this gentleman, who with his wife, had spent 25-30 years gathering obituaries from archives, copying them to their computer. He was kind enough to copy off about 10 obituaries from several of hubby's extended family which cleared up quite a few questions, and are a treasure to have for our records. > > I am truly sorry that some do not see the value of the obituaries but many of us do. I hope that someone who knows how to prepare a website (or whatever - I am not computer savvy) would consider coming forward and prepare somewhere to lodge these and future obituaries. There are a lot of good people on this website, Janice. There are several reasons, but the most important reason is that it was annoying people and causing some to drop from the list. I humbly apologize for causing any problems here as this is a wonderful genealogical source. I do hope that those who dropped out can be persuaded to rejoin. I will continue to enjoy all the postings that are made. Little here has been posted concerning my line, but there is always hope that this may change. I'm happy to set up and maintain the wordpress blog, add contributors, and the like, if there are no other takers. -- John K Pate http://jkpate.net/ The University of Edinburgh is a charitable body, registered in Scotland, with registration number SC005336.
