Isabella Glenn Phifer Pate, 89, died Tuesday September 4, 2007 in Madison. She was born September 3, 1918 in Jackson and lived most of her life there. Mrs. Pate worked in public relations and then served as Dean of Women for her alma mater, Millsaps College, followed by a stint at Unifirst Federal Savings and Loan Association, and then as corporate secretary of Field Co-Operative Association, Inc. She continued her family's membership at St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral, but she left to help found St. Stephens Reformed Episcopal Church. Mrs. Pate was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Smith Phifer and Corinne Elise Williamson Phifer; her brother, Calhoun Phifer; and her husband, Henry Payson Pate, II of Jackson and New Orleans. The family wishes to thank each of her friends for their many kindnesses to her over the years. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Sidney K. Pate (Barbara) of Covington, La.; her son, Henry P. Pate, III (Karen) of Vancleave; her daughter, Elise Williamson Pate Glisson (Allen) of Oxford; her grandchildren, Chalmers Bryant Glisson of Louisville, Ky.; Courtenay Locke Glisson of Nashville, Tenn.; Carrie Virginia Pate and Laura Patricia Pate of Vancleave. Visitation will be today from 11:30 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. in Lakewood Memorial Cemetery with the Reverend Bob Matheny officiating.
