Joel & Chris - a few notes and additions to your posting: John Allen Pate died before 1857 -- Matilda is listed as a widow on the 1860 Breckinridge Co, KY census - and in an indenture of land sold dated 3 Oct 1857 in Ohio Co, KY listing heirs of Samuel Crawford, it states "Heirs of Allen Pate, dec'd -- and list his 10 children" there is no Mary E Pate that I've found -- the 1900 Daviess Co, KY census shows Matilda has had 10 children and 5 still living. The marriage of John A Pate & Matilda H Morton is recorded in Spencer Co, IN - Bk 1, p 41 md 14 Nov 1832 by J B Greathouse, JP C C Pate is listed as Cullen C Pate in the deed of 3 Oct 1857 --and Christopher C Pate in the KY Death records - d. 2 Sep 1916, age 77. He is shown as Columbus Pate in all the census records I've found. Marriage is recorded in Breckinridge Co, KY, Bk 9, p 65 -- Columbus V Wedding, age 19 and Laura E Pate, age 19 -- md at residence of Matilda H Pate.
