    3. Stephen Swinney Pate and Tilman Pate are putative sons of Samuel Pate and his second wife Susan Fort. Stephen Swinney Pate b 1 Jul 1823 d 1 Sep 1863. He supposedly died in a CSA Hospital near Guyton, Effingham Co., GA and is buried there in an unmarked grave. He served as a Private in Company G, 22nd Georgia Heavy Artillery. Unit also known as Captain F. T, Cultens' Company, Cobb's Legion. His widow drew a pension based on his service. She resided in Clay and later Calhoun Counties, GA. Tilman Pate b ca 1838 d 25 Jun 1864 probably in GA. I have found no service card or other service record for him. He married Rebecca Arnett in Bibb Co., GA 13 May 1858. He was enumerated with his wife and two children in the 1860 census of Bibb Co., GA. See page 589, Godfreys Twsp, Macon PO, site 1358/1395. Rebecca Arnett Pate remarried to John Davis. A review of standard references did not disclose that she drew any sort of a pension for the service of Tilman Pate.
