    3. Good evening PATE Listers, First and most important, Jinks--you're in my prayers as well--you've helped me and many others on this list--we're all pulling for you! Second, I've learned of a new PATE ancestor that I need to learn more about--she's Frances M. J. PATE, born in Mississippi about 1850. She married Newell W. BROWN about 1870 in Van Zandt Co. TX. Will surely appreciate any info anyone can provide on her family line. Thanks Ed Waller

    3. Ed: The PATE and BROWN surnames seem to be intertwined from AL to MS to TX (1810 - 1910) Suggest you go here http://genforum.genealogy.com/pate/ and "jump" to Messages 2909 2910 2911 2912 Also "Jump" to BROWN Forum and "Jump" to Message 248 The following is taken from Jinks' AL25.1 Start quote: THIS IS STRICTLY A THEORY - but I think Newell W Pate (1811) and Gilbert G Pate (1814)-See Chart AL25.3, must be brothers. The family names are similar - Newell W Pate named his first son, Gilbert; and Gilbert G Pate named his first son, Newell Pate; Newell W Pate was in 1830 Tuscaloosa Co, AL; 1840 Pickens Co, AL and 1850 Itawamba Co, MS; Most of his children moved on to Henderson, Houston and Anderson Cos, TX. End quote I have a couple of THEORIES on these matters. THEORY 1. Newell W Pate b ca 1811 was NEWELL WARD PATE and was so named for a Georgian by the name of Newell Ward b ca 1768 THEORY 2. Newell W Pate b ca 1811 was b in Fayette Co GA THEORY 3. William Henry Brown b 14 mar 1874 in Van Zandt Co TX, the second son of Frances M J Pate and Newell W Brown, was named for his maternal grandfather, William H Pate of Itawamba Co MS. In the 1830 census of Tuscaloosa Co AL Newell W Pate was indexed as NUEL PATES Joel Some of the Tuscaloosa-Pickens Co AL-Itawamba Co MS PATE lines also SEEM to have ended up in Van Zandt Co. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ed-Janis" <ed-Janis@comcast.net> To: <PATE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 28, 2005 6:58 PM Subject: [PATE GENEALOGY] Looking for Info on Frances M.J. 3. I am of the opinion Newell W and Gilbert G are brothers. Gilbert G. Pate is my gg-grandfather. They tended to move around in several counties after they came to TX. Anderson, Henderson, VanZandt, Houston, and Milam. I wish I knew for certain who Newell W and Gilbert G's parents were. Jinks helped me a lot with this. She is a wonderful researcher and all round great lady.
