Hi Joel, At the time I copied this article (a chapter) from the internet, it was to study one of my surname's woes in those terribly trying times describing our ancestors' westward movement. This John Pate apparently had a son who in turn had a son named Rufus M Pate. Rufus M Pate is the known ancestor of a participant in the Pate DNA Project.
