Capt. John Craig's Fort (1785 - 1790's), Maryville, TN A small blockhouse surrounded by a two-acre stockade. This was the original settlement of the town. In 1793 over 280 settlers took refuge here for several months during an Indian seige. Sam Houston once lived here as a youth with his widowed mother and eight siblings sometime around 1807. Marker on Church Street.
