Colorado Gerald E "Jerry" Pate, 79, of Loveland died May 31, 2005, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland. He was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Ernest and Edna (Emerine) Pate . The family moved to a farm southwest of Berthoud in 1934, and he attended elementary school in Berthoud. The family moved to Loveland in 1936 and farmed southeast of Loveland. He attended Loveland schools and farmed with his parents. He married Lucille M. Deering on March 26, 1951, in Cheyenne, Wyo. They made their home in Loveland. Mr. Pate drove a grain truck in Strasburg, Colo., then returned to Loveland and worked for Loveland Feed and Grain for a short period before beginning his 36-year career with Public Service Co. of Colorado. He retired from Public Service in 1986 as a fitter serviceman. He loved his family, fishing, traveling and talking with people. His hobbies included riding his motorcycle and working with stained glass and copper leaves. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Pate of Loveland; a son, Robert Pate and wife Anne of Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Sherie Gibson and husband Joe of Newbury Park, Calif.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Helen Pilcher of Omaha, Neb.; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Pate of Loveland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell W. Pate, and two sisters, Dorothy Tompkins and Maxine Beckel. Cremation was conducted.
