Pate was a Korean war POW then served two tours in Vietnan. Now he is the president of the Ex US POW group. Here is a master thesis referencing him and his book. http://etd.lib.ttu.edu/theses/available/etd-07312008-31295018634641/unrestricted/31295018634641.pdf --- On Thu, 5/27/10, AJ <[email protected]> wrote: From: AJ <[email protected]> Subject: [PATE] "Famous Pate's" represented in our Pate DNA Project To: [email protected] Date: Thursday, May 27, 2010, 6:05 PM One of the purposes of preparing the list of "Famous Pate's" was the hope that we would discover genealogical connections from living Pate families back to these distinguished ancestors. This could be a very valuable contribution to Pate genealogy. Then it would be hoped that we could get new members into our Pate DNA Project from those kinships. Of the sixteen people on the list, only five have possible known representation in our Project. Genealogical analysis, as provided by Joel Pate, indicates the high likelihood their family lines are represented through Project members. They are: Letitia "Lettie" Pate Evans, 1872 - 1953 Virginia Maurice Pate, 1894 - 1965 Nebraska Gen. Randolph McCall Pate, 1898 - 1961 South Carolina James Leonard Pate, 1935 - 2003 Illinois Dr. Zack T. Pate, 1936 - Georgia Persons with no known representation in our Project are: Bishop Richard Pate, c. 1520 - 1565 England Richard Pate, 1516 - 1588 England Sir John Pate, c. 1585 - 1659 England Richard Pate, c. 1601 - 1657 England - Virginia Col. John Pate, c. 1633 - 1672 England - Virginia Col. Thomas Pate, c. 1652 - 1703 England - Virginia William Pate, 1666 - 1746 England Squire Samuel Pate, 1795 - 1849 Kentucky Joseph William "Joe" Pate, 1892 - 1948 Texas Michael Pate, 1920 - 2008 Australia Jerome K. "Jerry" Pate, 1953 - Georgia While it is highly likely that their DNA is represented in our Project, it is unknown which members may have ancestral links to them. Though we have accomplished much in our Pate genealogy, thanks to the great efforts of Jinks Pate-Lee, Joel Pate, and many others, you can readily see from the above that there are large areas of undeveloped genealogical territory. These represent significant opportunities for dedicated researchers. It also indicates that our Pate DNA Project is still very much a work-in-progress. A. J.
