April: Very interesting discoveries! Comments and Questions: 1 - Both the M12Anthony1804 b TN and the M44Matthew1795 b TN lines have representatives in the Pate DNA Project.. At the 37 marker level the probability of these two men, one of whom you sponsored, sharing a common ancestor at the 12 generation is 97.47%. Perhaps Matthew was an older brother of Anthony. 2- I'm sure that in your research you found this marriage record -* EVALINA (MRS.) PATE married JAMES R. DRIVER in MARION Co IL 8 OCT 1860 **Bk D, Pg 5 [SOURCE: CyberDriveIL]*. Real challenge to sort this one out. 3- Is it your theory that Anthony Pate and his wife Eveline, residents or former residents of Morgan Co., IL, were in Grayson Co., TX on 14 Oct 1875 and 8 Nov 1875 and executed a deed and an acknowledgment of the deed on those respective dates and further that both instruments were witnesses by one William or William D Kirk, a Justice of the Peace in Grayson Co., TX? Sounds plausible and reasonable to me. Joel, Thank you for the reply. For your Point #2 below: No, I did not look further into the marriage of Mrs. Evalina Pate and James Driver--will plan to do that. I did find out that the Washington Co. IL marriage between Anthony Pate and Carmi E. Robinson was a second marriage for Carmi, as on the copy of the register she is clearly recorded as MRS. Carmi E. Robinson. Wonder if the middle initial of "E" could be for Evaline? For your Point #3: I'm not really sure what my theory is on this! The only heading given for the first part of this deed is "No. 3021 Pate to Hodges", and it is recorded in Morgan County Illinois Deed Book #21 on pages 75-77. Since it was "signed, sealed, and delivered" in the presence of Wm. D. Kirk (who appears to be a Justice of the Peace at that time in Grayson Co. TX), I think that they (Anthony and Eveline Pate, Emma Howard, and J. H. Cummins) must have been in Grayson Co. TX on 14 Oct 1875. BUT--on 8 Nov 1875, Eveline Pate appears alone in Morgan County, Illinois to acknowledge that she "signed, sealed and delivered the said instrument". AND--on 3 Nov 1875, Anthony Pate appeared alone in Grayson Co. TX to acknowledge executing the deed. More Questions: Do we know who the Emma Pate enumerated in the 1880 Grayson Co TX Census is? Emma Pate, 45 yrs. b. IL is widowed or divorced; Ida (10), Thomas (15) and John (19) all born in IL appear to be children living with her. Father's birthplace for these children is TN; mother's birthplace IL. The estimated birthdate of 1835 for this Emma makes her too old to be the Emma Pate who was a daughter of Eveline and Anthony Pate and married Alexander G. Howard (based on the 1860 Jefferson Co MO census). BUT, could this be Eveline Pate, b. abt. 1830 IL (based on same 1860 Jefferson Co MO Census), wife of Anthony, perhaps Eveline Emma or Emma Eveline??? I need an 1875 Illinois State Census for Morgan County--probably doesn't exist anymore or was never made! Will look into that, too.
