Following is an abstract of that household- Page 460 Fair Gardens Township, site 78/78 *PRESTON PATE 30 B/M FARM LABORER TN 1840* *SUSANNAH PATE 28 B/F KEEPING HOUSE TN 1842* * TINA PATE 18 B/F HOUSE KEEPER TN 1858* *DICY A PATE 15 B/M HOUSE KEEPER TN 1855* *FRANK PATE 11 B/M AT HOME TN 1859* *PRESTON PATE 9 Mu/M TN 1861* *SYNTHA PATE 7 Mu/F TN 1863* *PLEASANT PATE 5 Mu/M TN 1865 * One of the most prominent men in this section of Sevier County was Rev. Samuel Pate, a Baptist Minister. His widow, Hannah Canterberry Pate, was enumerated in the same area at site 61/61. Other members of this family also can be found in the 1870 census. Samuel Pate was enumerated in the 1850 slave schedule of Sevier Co as a slave holder, but he was not listed in the 1860 slave schedule. The individual names of slaves were not recorded in the slave schedules. Age, gender and race of slaves were recorded in the slave schedules. Former slaves often took the surnames of their owners or biological fathers. The apparent sons of Preston Pate b ca 1840, Preston Pate b ca 1861 and Pleasant Pate b ca 1865 perhaps were later in Hamblen Co., TN ** * * -- PATE DNA PROJECT http://www.familytreedna.com/public/pate-dna-project Sharing Our Past, Our Present and Our Future PATE LIST SERVE [email protected] A free E-Mail Forum for PATE Researchers
