    1. [PATE] Revolutionary War Documents on Ancestry and at DAR
    2. John Robinson
    3. I have recently downloaded two Revolutionary War Pensions from Ancestry. One was for Jacob Parkerson, Father-in-Law of Rev. William Pate, father of Temperance "Tempty" Parkerson Pate. Anyone that has an ancestor that served, that doesn't have a copy of the pension or land grants, might find this newly accessible information of interest. Another source is DAR. Their files are now open at their website, http://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search/ Remember that their records may not be accurate, as much of their information was submitted by folks based on undocumented sources.

    2. John, The best way to be fairly sure is to check the date of the application. In the past 20 years there has been a tremendous effort to clear and verify the applications. It is true that for most societies, the data near the founding of the society, is somewaht hopeful and based on family lore. There are certain lines in the DAR that are no longer open nor will applicants be admitted on these lines. However, you can find data that may lead to information about your particular line. Like every other genealogical source, you must verify the information with a verified source. The computer is a great tool but it allows far too much false information to be passed on. The Daughters were not the only hopeful ones. Meredith ---- John Robinson <[email protected]> wrote: > I have recently downloaded two Revolutionary War Pensions from Ancestry.
