The primary reason I was interested in a photo upload site, was that most email providers limit the size of attachments. Apparently, DropShots and other similar sites do not. It's really nice to download a good quality photo. Prior to this, to share photos, etc., I've gotten the other persons mailing address, copied the images to cd's, and used the US Mail to share. This, if it works, will be FREE, no postage stamps required. When I first started this quest, I anticipated a site we all could use, however, this was not a good idea. For anyone that wishes to use this method for sharing files, I recommend creating your own site. Why DropShots: This site and Picasa were recommended. When I tried to open a Picasa page, I couldn't figure out how to do it. Since I like simple, I had already created the DropShots site, I decided to stay with DropShots. If you wonder why I selected "Pate1873" as the site name, this was simply a senior moment. I meant to use "Pate1773", only missed by a hundred years. What I don't like about DropShots: You cannot see the file name, which is how I organize my images. To avoid this problem, I'll upload fewer files and / or upload files that are most commonly requested, then upload files that are specifically requested. I can also anticipate, if someone wants an image that is in my collection, uploading it for that individual. Person Photos: My people photos start, as a general rule, with my Great Grand's, Dads, Moms, Aunts, and Uncles. It is nice to add a face to a name. I've also, given and received photos of ancestors that I did not have or the other person did not have. Recently, this weekend, I shared photos with a cousin, maybe 3rd, not sure about these relationships, and they are priceless. Since this was done using email, we swapped low quality digital images. With DropShots we can upload high quality pictures and subsequently download them on the other end. Melanie, I'll upload those family group shots today. Have you gone to the site? I've added first names to the folders to help id the contents. http://www.dropshots.com/Pate1873# Comments appreciated.
