I am a member of the Thoroughgood group in the Pate DNA project. My last known and confirmed grandfather was Joseph Pate 1817 - 1871 NC from the Greys Creek area of NC. After my DNA test results we thought we tracked my great, great grandfather to a Joseph Pate 1787 - 1847 the son Isham Pate 1750 -1840. After looking at the information again of Joseph's son Joseph Pate 1828 - 1886 I came to the conclusion this probably was not my great, great grandfather as once thought. This conclusion comes from the birth year and death year. My Joseph Pate's mother was Echa Pate that married John B. Davis from Robeson County NC. That is the last mentioning of her. Through Cumberland County NC court records it is shown Joseph was given to a Alfred Jackson as a apprentice and servant to the age of 21. This man may have also been a Pate. There is a mentioning of Joseph living with his uncle that was a Alfred Jackson Pate. There is no mentioning of whom Joseph's father was or where he and his mother came from. Also my Joseph Pate served in the confederate army if that is of any help. If anyone can give me any information it would be much appreciated.
