    3. It was so informative. I wish all obituaries were written that way. Apparently I have had a misconception about the nickname "Jack." I have always thought it was used for James or Jackson. Is it used for anyone or is it for Joseph. 3. Jack is a nickname for John as far as I know. I had 3 uncles who were called Jack and their real names were all John. All were born/raised in NC and SC. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/513387/nicknames_how_john_became_jack_and.html I have never heard of it as a nickname for Joseph - until now. Maybe it was not a nickname for Joseph at all, but rather, a nickname from something else - such as Jack Sprat - or maybe he was really tall and lean and they called him Jack - like in Jack and the Beanstalk. Who knows? 3. Goodness when you look at it that way, you wonder why you are researching your family. However we can't give it up. Too many mysteries to solve. I have trouble deciding who to work on. -- Clovis
