Hi John, Here is what little info I have on this William Pate.... >From "An Early History of Mascoutah: To and Including the Year 1850" by Herbert F. Lill: On p. 109-"There were one mason and one brick mason in the town. William Pate was the mason and David Nelson the brick mason." (The chapter of this quote is entitled "After 1841".) On p. 164 from the chapter entitled "1850 Census"- "William Pate, age 43; wife Mary; children Sarah, George, Nancy and ABRAHAM; occupation mason, born in Tennessee." I don't see an Abraham listed as a child of William and Mary on the 1850 census--it looks like "Mariah Patese" to me, and the gender is marked "F". She is three years old; but, the census also indicates that William and Mary were married "within the year". I've searched the ISA Online Marriage Index, and could find nothing. The last name of the children (Sarah, George, and Nancy) looks like TIRGE on the copy of the census record I have. Hope this helps some, April -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Saturday, May 29, 2010 12:01 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [PATE] William & Mary Pate 1850 census I found this in some of my paper's it off the 1850 census, district 2, St Clair co, Illinois William Pate----43--m--job Mason---born Tenn Mary--------------30--f----born St Clair co Sarah Jirg-------11--f---- " George W.
