Officiating will be Bro. Laurie Mangum with Bro. Lee Jackson assisting. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday evening between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Minnie Pate, known by all as "Marie", went home to her Savior on May 12, 2010, shortly after her 90th birthday. Her final days were spent surrounded by immediate family. Mrs. Pate was born May 3, 1920, in Mansfield, LA to Ira and Leona (nee, Burrows) Snowden. She met Charles Tillman Pate in Mansfield, and they married August 8, 1936. Mr. Pate worked for the Louisiana-Arkansas Gas Company for many years, while Marie was a full-time homemaker. The couple raised their family in Little Rock, AR and later in Shreveport, LA. A long time and oldest member of the Bible Baptist Church of Shreveport, she loved the old gospel standards from the hymnal, but wasn't too keen on long-winded preaching. Straight to the point and stubborn, she could always be relied on to say exactly what she meant. Mrs. Pate enjoyed animals, and loved gardening in her yard. Her favorite stories from her youth often revolved around long, bare-footed walks in the country with family and friends. Mrs. Pate is survived by her sister, Beatrice Hughes of Many, LA; her two children, Ronald Pate of Houston, TX and Nancy Sistrunk of Shreveport; grandchildren, Russell Pate, Steven Pate, Mary Rose Delahunty and husband, Shawn, Robert Sistrunk and wife, Connie, and Donald Sistrunk; great-grandchildren, Casey and Kayla Sistrunk; additional extended family, and the love of her life, Penny, her faithful daschund-terrier mix. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tillman, her parents, her daughter-in-law, Lourdes O. Pate and granddaughter, Tonya Ann Pate. The family would like to extend a very grateful thank you to the staff of Garden Park Nursing Home for all of their love and care shown to "Miss Minnie" during her stay and to the nursing staff of Willis Knighton South for their care and attendance. She loved you all. Centuries Memorial Funeral Home (318) 686-4334 Published in Shreveport Times on May 13, 2010
