    3. DAN i think the John Pate age abt 8 in the 1870 Grimes Co., TX is an excellent candidate to be the J H Pate who married Nancy I Pate 1885 in Brazos Co.,TX I think that Nancy I Love appears (age3 ) in the 1870 census of Madisonville, Madison Co., TX and the 1880 census of Brazos Co., TX, (age 13). She seems to be the daughter of James M Love and Caroline Banks. I think the "I" in her name is for "Ida", but that is more guess than documented fact. Brazos and Grimes are contigous and share a county line of several miles. If Nancy Love was a Brazos girl, it makes sense that she would marry a local lad from an adjoining county. 3. The marriage in Brazos County did not have any bondsmen.  I did not write down the name of the minister conducting the wedding.   I've wondered if J H Pate might be the same person as the John Pate, who died on 1 Apr 1894 in Brazos County.   I also found in the 1870 census of Grimes County (which is adjacent to Brazos County):   William Pate  b. abt 1836, GA Mary   b. abt 1840, AL John  b. abt 1862, TX Andy  b. abt 1864, TX Susan  b. abt 1866, TX   I do not know anything else on this family.  Could the John in 1870 Grimes County be J H Pate and the John, who died in 1894?   Dan ________________________________ From: Joel Pate <patej@nettally.com> To: "PATE-L@rootsweb. com" <PATE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2012 1:35 PM Subject: [PATE] J H Pate and Nancy I Love 27 Oct 1885 Vol F, page 301 - Brazos Co., TX For April Johnson, Dan Franklin and Green Hall I have not been able to identify and place the J H Pate who married Nancy I Love  in Brazos Co.,  TX in 1885.
