Ollie McRary RICHLAND, Miss. Ollie Tyson Brown McRary, 86, of Richland, Miss., received her final call from earth to glory Tuesday, October 16, 2012, after several years of declining health. She fought the good fight and will now be at peace in her heavenly home. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. at Drexel Memorial Church. Pastor Freddie Brown will be officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Drexel Memorial Church. Burial will follow the funeral at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory of Valdese. Ollie was born in Ruleville, Miss. Aug. 4, 1926, the youngest girl in a large family. She was beautiful with a contagious smile and a zest for life and caught the eye of a young soldier upon his return from World War II. She married this young soldier, Mack Brown, and returned with him to North Carolina. They were married for 40 years until his death in 1985. Ollie continued to make her home in North Carolina and still has many cherished friends here that she met at Drexel Memorial and through her employment at various textile companies. Ollie lived in North Carolina until her health began to decline in 2007, when she moved back to Mississippi and became a member of Restoration Church, where her son is the pastor. For the final five years of her life, Ollie received loving and devoted care from her son, his family and dedicated church members. This compassionate care allowed Ollie to live out the last few years of her life with dignity and minimal pain and with the knowledge that she was loved unconditionally. There is no greater gift than this. Ollie had a special way of touching people with a loving spirit and a generous heart. She loved her family, the mountains of North Carolina and her friends. She especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Rook and "shooting the moon" with her brothers and sisters at family reunions. She will be returning to the North Carolina mountains in the fall season that she so dearly loved. Ollie is survived by her son, Pastor Freddie Brown and wife, Debra; daughter Mary and husband, Mike Secrest; grandchildren, Terri and Larry Pate, Amy and Jon Buckman, Wendi and Wes Teten, Pete Hatton, Claire Thwaites, Debbi and Stephen Holt, Michael Secrest, and Amanda Hendrix' and cherished great-grandchildren, Noah and Luke Pate, Rebecca Thwaites, Christopher and Grace Buckman, Olivia, Evan, and Drew Teten, and Parker and Elijah Holt. Ollie was preceded in death by her husband Mack; parents, Paralee and Wiley; brothers, Foster, Luther and Frank; and sisters Pauline, Mary, Hazel, Hattie and Dollie. Say not in grief, "She is no more," but live in thankfulness that she was.
