    1. [PATE] Additional Contributors to the Gloucester Hall Historical Highway Marker
    2. A. J.
    3. Two more contributions have come in for the marker, and the contributors deserve recognition for their generosity and participation. This will close the books on the marker project. This is a revised summary (see earlier message below): Contributions (previous total) $ 1,600 Janice Marler 25 Barry and Pamela Pate 100 Total contributions $ 1,725 Disbursements 1,575 Net surplus $ 150 Note: Surplus transmitted to the General Fund of the Pate DNA Project. Each contributor has given a pro rata share of the marker cost and a pro rata share of the surplus transferred to the Project’s Fund. This transfer will increase the balance in the Fund to $504. All disbursements from this Fund must be related to our Project and approved by its administrators (Joel Pate, Troy Pate, and A. J. Pate). A. J. Pate _______________________ From: "A. J." < a12j02@sbcglobal.net> Subject: [PATE] Contributors for the Gloucester Hall Historical Highway Marker Date: Mon, 12 Nov 2012 18:16:43 –0600 I am deeply grateful for each of the persons listed below for their generosity and participation in providing the Gloucester Hall historical highway marker in Gloucester County, Virginia. It is a permanent memorial to the memory of those who brought great honor to our family surname in colonial Virginia. It is the only public notice of the Pate name in Gloucester County, and, for all practical purposes, the entire state of Virginia. The dedication was a very proud moment for those fortunate enough to be there. Including my wife and me, there were eleven people attending with the Pate surname. In addition, the post-dedication reception was held at the home of a direct descendant of Sarah Pate, granddaughter of Col. Thomas Pate, whose home is likely within a mile radius of the site of Gloucester Hall, a fact unknown to him when he bought the home. The moment was made even more memorable due to the real sense of kinship and family which I believe we all felt. It was one of the rare opportunities we have to meet and visit on common ground, a great time of fellowship which seemed to be thoroughly enjoyed by all. Speaking of which, there may be another opportunity to meet again in the near future. I have sent an application for an historical highway marker for Letitia Pate Whitehead Evans. She was one of the most remarkable and generous women in the history of Virginia. She and her first husband developed the concept of bottling Coca-Cola in the late 1890s. Her wealth has been shared through her many philanthropies. I have received assurance that this marker’s cost will be covered by state/federal diversity funds. If and when this marker has been approved for installation, I will notify everyone. Harry Pate and his wife Linda attended the dedication and videotaped the ceremony. I will inform you if Harry makes the tape available. If you recall, Harry also videotaped the Pate Genealogical Convocation in colonial Virginia in 2008 and prepared excellent DVDs for purchase. This was the first such gathering of its kind in our family's history, bringing together all the greatest living Pate genealogists and researchers for the first time. The late Dr. Jim Peacock was one of our speakers. These DVDs are still available. Please contact Harry if interested in acquiring a set. Below is the list of contributors to the Gloucester Hall marker. I think they all can take great pride in knowing that they have ownership in this marker which will be seen for many generations to come, as long as this nation endures. A. J.
