Mrs. Pate was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Murray L. Pate; two brothers, Joe and Jamie Waddell; and two sisters, Lois Waddell and Clara B. Waddell. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Ann Jones and husband, R.B., of Kernersville; two grandchildren, Jan Jones of Charlotte and Kyle Jones and wife, Kathy, of Atlanta; two sisters, Grace Wright of Winston-Salem and Doris Wright of Graham; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Forsyth Memorial Park, with the Rev. Donald Funderburk and the Rev. Christa Warise officiating.     3. PATE ROCKY MOUNT - Naomi "Edith" Winstead Pate, 87, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born in Nash County on Oct. 10, 1920, to Ruffin and Emily Winstead. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Having lived most of her adult life in the city of Rocky Mount, she had resided with her daughter and son-in-law in Pinnacle since September 2006. Mrs. Pate owned and operated the W. & R. Beauty Shop for more than 40 years. She was an active member of Clark Street United Methodist until it closed and then transferred to Marvin United Methodist Church and was active there until 2006. She loved attending church, Wednesday morning Bible study and spending time with her church friends. She attended Pinnacle United Methodist Church while living in Pinnacle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward S. Pate; her parents; a brother, Cecil Winstead; and four sisters, Virginia Bass, Ida Ruth Medlin, Maxine Deans and Olivia Flora. She is survived by a daughter, Marie P. Gordon, and husband Phillip; a son, Robert E. Pate Sr., and wife Joan; four grandchildren, Jennifer Barnette, Justin (Heather) Gordon and Rob and Sara Pate; four great-grandchildren, Tanner Gordon, Brianna Barnett and Pate and Tyler Gordon; two sisters, Audrey (Earl) Joyner and Jenell (James) Rose; two brothers, Dixie Lee (Velma) Winstead and Norris (Helen) Winstead; and a sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Winstead. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends she loved very much. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Johnson Funeral and Cremations, with the funeral service following at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at Forsyth Medical Center and all the staff at Kate B. Mrs. Pate, a professional cook, was born in Anderson, SC. She was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and a long-time employee of the Courtyard Marriott.     3. GORMAN Fred M. "Mike" Gorman, formerly of Orient, OH, age 91, died peacefully in his sleep on October 2, 2012. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Betty, his childhood sweetheart. He worked for International Harvester Co. and IH Dealers for 29 years before he returned to farming from which he retired in 1983 after 17 seasons. A veteran of WWII he was a life member #8 of the 12th Armored Div. Assn. where he served for many years as Service Officer. Among his medals are the Bronze Star Medal and the ETO Medal with 3 Bronze Battle Stars. He also was a life member of the American Ex-POW's, Disabled American Veterans, and the Rhine and Danube Assn. Other memberships include the Ohio Chapter #1 Ex-POW's, American Legion, Grove City Lodge #689 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Hilltop Shrine Club, and the Grove City United Methodist Church.     3. Owen William Spears, 87 passed away peacefully in Porterville, CA. October 11, 2011. Owen was born March 11, 1924 in Yell County, Arkansas to John and Maude Spears. Owen met and married Marie (Pate) Spears in 1946. Owen lived a long life and worked many jobs to support his family. He became a sub-foreman at the former Lindsay Ripe Olive plant, in Lindsay, CA. where he retired after 20 years. He loved baseball, his team was the SF Giants and when they were out of season he loved his SF 49rs. He was an avid Pool player and won many tournaments. Owen made many friends in his 87 years. Owen will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Owen is survived by his wife, Marie (Pate) Spears of 65 years. His children include two daughters, Maudine (Spears) Grenfell, of Porterville, CA., Kathleen (Spears) Dodd of MO., two sons Jody Spears of Porterville, CA., and Donald Spears and wife Kathie Spears of Stockton CA. He had six grandchildren Mark and Lupe Wells of Porterville, CA., Jeremy and Yelena Hogan of Bloomington, IN, Loraine (Hogan) and Jake Pipkin of Porterville, CA, Melissa Grenfell and Adina Feemster of Porterville, CA, Shannon (Spears) and Jason Gustaveson of San Diego, CA., and Mathew Spears of San Diego, CA. Nine great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three sisters and one brother and his son Donald Spears. Marcus Shelley Mr. Marcus "Bud" Shelley, age 76, a resident of Gardendale (formerly of Ashford) died Tuesday December 18, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday December 20, 2012 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church near Ashford with the Reverend Ricky Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery with Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing. Nathan also served the IRAQ war from 2007 to 2008. He was awarded medals of Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Global war on terrorism service, and the IRAQ campaign medal with campaign star.     3. Harold Pate October 24, 1914- December 26, 2012 COLUMBUS, GEORGIA- Mr. Harold Pate, 98, passed away on December 26, 2012 at his residence. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 3:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 1:30 - 2:30 PM on Saturday. Mr. Pate was born October 24, 1914 to the late Walter Johnson Pate and Vina Nelson Pate. He was well known in Columbus for his gardens, having been featured several times in the Ledger-Enquirer. Mr. Pate had a true passion for gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Whitley Pate and two children, Edward Johnson Pate and Rebecca Ann Hollingsworth. Survivors include his six children, Eleanor Pate Shurr and her husband, Vincent of Savannah, GA, James Richard Pate and his wife, Geri of Columbus, GA, Mary Susan Pate Shueller and her husband, John of Savannah, GA, John Michael Pate and his wife, Irene of Columbus, GA, Harold Jerome Pate and his fiancè, Faye of Columbus and Thomas Dean Pate and his fiancé, Rosemary of LaGrange, GA; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends this evening beginning at 5 p.m. Mr. Pate died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at his residence. He is survived by his mother's, Debbie Crow and Marie Harper; brothers, Daniel Pate and his wife, Amanda, Freddy Pate, Rodney Pate and his wife, Susan, his special brother, Tigger Boy; ten nieces and nephews, Hannah Pate, Hayley Pate, Brooklyn Pate, Heather Magourik, Felicia Pate, Johnny Pate, Jason Pate, Courtney Pate, Jordan Pate, and Madison Pate. Dec. 10, 1971 - Dec. 16, 2012 SOUTH BEND - Jeanette Yvonne Pates, 41, who resided on West Jefferson Blvd., affectionately known as "Peaches" by all who knew and loved her, went home to be with the Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 16, 2012. Jeanette was born to Wilbert Pates and Janice Bond on December 10, 1971, in South Bend, her lifelong home. She graduated from Clay High School in 1988 and attended Indiana University, South Bend, and Bloomington, IN. Her employment record includes The Signature Group, At&T and Alford's Mortuary. She also was a member of Pentecostal Cathedral for the past 20 years. She loved to sing and was a member of the Voices of Pentecostal. In addition, she loved hearing and telling jokes, board games and cooking. Jeanette was especially talented at creating holiday foods. Those who preceded Jeanette in death were her father, Wilbert Pates; maternal grandmother, Bessie Bond; paternal grandmother, Ophelia Pates; maternal grandfather, Robert Bond Jr.; paternal grandfather, Robert Pates Sr.; uncle, Robert Pates Jr.; paternal aunt, Yvonne Pates; and stepdad, Melvin Smith Sr. "Peaches" is survived by her mother, Janice Bond; her stepfather, Lonnie King Jr.; brothers, Lonnie King III, Melvin (Terrica) Smith, David (Shyla) Smith, Tyson, Travis, Brandon and Marvin King; sisters, Wendy, Patricia and Jasimen Pates, Jessette Ross, Kela & Ramie Smith, and Sonya Agnew; aunts, Diane and Mae Bond, Valerie (Billie) Malone, Viola and Annie Pates, Ophelia (Yuselle) Casstel, Patricia (Louis) Leonard and Linda (Rev.
