    2. Janice, To say that the 4,524 e-mails currently lodged on my menu are at times - overwhelming - is an understatement and opening my e-mail to find many obituaries awaiting my attention can also be overwhelming at first. However, I have clicked my mouse on each of your obituaries' subject line to check location and sometimes find dates. Most are of no value to me at present and I delete them, knowing they are safely stored on the Pate Rootsweb website should I later find I need some of them after all. The possibility of value to another researcher, now or later, is huge if the researcher is looking for that one small connection that might be found in one of the obituaries. I am truly sorry to see your gracious, time-consuming efforts have not been appreciated as valuable research resouces for individuals perhaps not yet searching or do not have access to obituaries. Perhaps we should consider setting up a special link to deposit obituaries in a special file, then notify the Pate List when particular state, area or time frames have been posted for anyone who is interested to go check them out. This would not overwhelm the users of the main Pate Rootsweb.com website who apparently have no interest in obituaries yet those desperate for a connection could peruse the dedicated obituary section of the Pate website at their leisure. My husband's Pate family is small, not much known about them but some years back a very kind lady, through the Findagrave group, sent me the name of a person who had been gathering information on people from this very small OK community that we were interested in. We went to see this gentleman, who with his wife, had spent 25-30 years gathering obituaries from archives, copying them to their computer. He was kind enough to copy off about 10 obituaries from several of hubby's extended family which cleared up quite a few questions, and are a treasure to have for our records. I am truly sorry that some do not see the value of the obituaries but many of us do. They are a valuable research resource that is all too often overlooked and difficult for most of us to obtain. Janice, I have really appreciated your efforts here. I hope that someone who knows how to prepare a website (or whatever - I am not computer savvy) would consider coming forward and prepare somewhere to lodge these and future obituaries. We also do not have anywhere to post pictures, deeds, death certificates, etc., for sharing do we? This website could certainly use a little more research activity. Perhaps we are all getting too old to find new leads and perhaps what we know now is all we are going to ever know. Perhaps there isn't anything more to find. I am concerned that complaining about a hard working individual trying to help may discourage anyone new from venturing into our research community looking for help. Who knows where our next clue to breaking down our brick walls will come from? I am still hopeful but in our case, our time is running out. Unfortunately, Laynie, except for Janice, it appears most of the Pate researchers, me included, have been "lurking" for some time. There are a lot of good people on this website, Janice. Don't let those who don't see the value of your work discourage you. Thank you again for your efforts, Janice. 3. Janice, I am so very sorry this has happened. Thank you for your hard work and what time you did put into it. It was appreciated by me for sure. Some people can be so nasty when a little something inconveniences them. I was originally doing the ~Obit postings for this list, but when I would post more than about 3 or 5 at a time, I would get private 'hate mail' for it from a choice few. I was either locking up someone's computer or causing them to have to sit and wait for too much mail to download or causing them some other kind of problem. I got physically sick from the stress of receiving this kind of nasty mail when my only intention was to hopefully help put a missing piece of the genealogy puzzle together for someone, so I just stopped posting to this group altogether and have been here just lurking for months. When you started posting the obits and went over 5 at a time (sometimes you would post a dozen or more at a time) I sat here cringing, wondering just how long it would take before someone called you out on it, too. It didn't take long. Sad. So very sad that anyone felt the need to drop out rather than just hit their DELETE key. Back to lurking for me now. Thanks again for your time and hard work. 3. Janice and all dictators of the list. I do not have the time to read all the post put on this site or any of the others I am subscribed to. I do take all the ones I don't read and save them for a later time when I am able to go through them. It may be after I retire that I get to them. I appreciate you posting all the obits even though I have rarely even opened any. They may really help me or someone else in the future. I don't understand why others can't just hit the delete button if they don't see any value in your postings or anyone else's for that matter. It annoys me that others are annoyed by your postings because they are too lazy to hit the delete button. It is easy to just sort by sender and then delete all the messages from that poster. Seems to me we may have some people on here wanting to control the minds and actions of others because they are more important than the rest of us. I will also bet they have more time on their hands than the rest of us. I would like to know the names of the complainers, so I can delete any messages sent from them in the future. I am sure I have no common Ancestry with them that I care to know about. I thought the purpose of the list server was to disseminate information about the Pates, not to judge the value of the information for others. I will gladly send the unsubscribe message if being my big brother is the purpose of the list instead of getting the information out. I am now caught up on current ones that I get from Legacy and GenObits. Now I am searching Legacy for archived ones from the various states/newspapers. This should be done fairly soon.   If you look at "Today's Topics" at the top of each mailing, you can see if it's an obit or death notice. When you see that, you'll know whether it's something you want to read or not. I hope that you do this and continue to read the other information which may be of concern.   Of course, I will stop posting if the administrators ask me to do so, or if it's the consensus of the membership. Just let me know. I DO NOT want to cause any problems. I just want to supply information. So far, the consensus is 4 not wanting the obits while 2 are thankful for them with one being able to add to her family information by seeing an obit of a family member.         >________________________________ >From: "pate-request@rootsweb.com" <pate-request@rootsweb.com> >To: pate@rootsweb.com >Sent: Friday, January 11, 2013 2:00 AM >Subject: PATE Digest, Vol 8, Issue 11 > > > >Today's Topics: > >  1. 3. As far as I know there is no way to keep you from getting notices of the obits. I post them so that they are available for future research. For various reasons, I had gotten behind, so that's why there have been so many lately.
