Query: Carolyn Moore, seymore01@insightbb.com Ancestry.com Bulletin Board - PATE Searching for the family of Nathaniel Pate m 1) Nancy 2) Julia Etta (Weaver) Tredaway. Nathaniel and Nancy were in Chickasaw Co, MS in 1840 & 1850. Nathaniel and Julia were married 5-25-1879 in Faulkner Co, AR. any info on this family appreciated. My reply: Nathaniel Pate, per the 1850 census of Chickasaw Co MS had, among others, a son Benjamin age 15 and a son Nathaniel age 4. The son Nathaniel MAY be the Nathaniel C Pate in the 1880 census of Van Buren Co AR, page 464, Enumeration Dist. 39, sheet 39, Griggs Twsp, site 362/362. The wife, Mary E Pate, is PERHAPS Mary Etta Treadaway, married 15 Dec 1872 in Conway Co., AR. Mary Etta Treadaway is PERHAPS the dau of E. Andrew Jackson Treadaway and Julia Etta Weaver The son Benjamin MAY be the Benjamin Pate in the 1880 census of Faulkner Co AR, page 647, enumeration Dist. 55, sheet 26, Muddy Bayou, site 227/250. This Benjamin has a son named Nathaniel. Also in the 1880 census of Faulkner Co AR, at page 622, Enum. Dist. 54, sheet 3, Matthews Twsp, site 30/32, is Nathan (Nathaniel) Pate and wife Juliett. One interesting entry in the 1870 census of Pulaski Co AR, page 392, Prairie Twsp, Little Rock PO, site 73/74 is this household: Nathan Pate 50 W/M -TN Sylvania Pate 14 W/F -MS Julia A Pate 12 W/F -MS E Andrew Jackson Treadaway supposedly died during the civil war period. Did older Nathaniel Pate marry his son's mother in law? Asked in a different format was Julia Etta Weaver Treadaway the mother in law and later the step mother of the younger Nathaniel Pate?
Dear Jink and Pate List , The James Pate who is married to Eliz. W and eldest son of the 1817 Stephen pate will of 1817 is firmly in Dyer Co by 1830. He has in his family structure in the 1850 census (Dyer Co, Tn )Stephen Pate bn@1826 who is listed as "an idiot" and bn in Alabama. He also has with him Polly Ann (Mary Ann Pate) who is known by the court in 1851 as the daughter of Stephen D. Pate along with Mathew Pate ( two of the eight children.)She is the wife of William Miller of Dyer Co, Tn. Land deeds in Dyer Co show that in 1840 that in the 9th range that James Pate, Jr., pg 80 has 199 acres in the 2nd range by John J. Crockett's ext. Dec 19, 1940. Andrew Jackson Pate (son of Stephen Pate and Jane Milliken, who married in Madison Co Al and had AJP there)entered by James Pate 9th range by James Pate (no Jr.) entry #134, Dec 19, 1840. Then James Rucker enters his land by James Pate, Jr and Andrew Jackson Pate. All of these are in the 2nd section, 9th range. For some reason the only son of Mathew Pate and Jane Milliken Pate (widow of Stephen Pate)(the elder not the Mathew Pate who in 1851 tries to establish his relationship with Stephen Pate as a son along with Mary Ann Pate Miller 2 of 8) E. Cain Pate is with my direct line Elizabeth Pate Clark(who marries Henderson Clark in 1819 Madison Co Tn and moves with Zach andSusan Pate Rucker, Stephen and Jane Pate, Mathew Pate and Older Woman-most likely his mother by age, and James Pate to Dyer Co by 1830 tp be cpimted by census). E. Cain Pate's family firmly state that "he was the only son of Jane Milliken and Mathew Pate". The reference for this was a VERY thorough genealogist who was a straight line grandaughter. I find it almost impossible to believe that the Dyer Co Pate families are not related to the Stepehen and Mathew Pate who are mentioned in the 1817 will. Meredith PS Perhaps the key is finding the firm identification of the children who are with Jane Pate and James Pate in the 1830 census. (AND it wouldn't hurt to identify the sticks in the Mathew Pate and James Pate families as well. MAS) Does anyone know where the people in James Pate's familiy in the 1850 will are buried? We know that Mary Ann Pate and Col George B. Pate are in the Miller cemetery. (Col George B. was married to Mariah Miller, sister of Wm Miller.MAS) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jinks Lee" <jinksp@juno.com> To: <PATE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2003 4:19 PM Subject: [PATE] Brick Walls: Stephen Pate (M16) > Stephen Pate b. ca 1753, d. 1817 Madison Co, AL > md: Unknown > > Known Children: > James Pate b. c 1778 > md Eliza W -- > Polly Pate, b. c 1793 > md James Milliken > > Stephen Pate's will is probated in Madison Co, MISSISSIPPI > TERRITORY in 1817 dated 28 Apr 1817; He mentions his > wife (not named); Son, James Pate; Son-in-law, James > Milliken; and 5 younger children (not named). > > Who are these 5 younger children? They both served in the Civil War, so it is possible Amster was killed, but I have found no record. Hello All, I would like to contact Vera A. Pate-Nobles, d/o James Edward Pate. She *may* have once lived in Pensacola, FL. She is of the GA to FL Joel Pate line and related to me thru Pate, Yates and Wilcox of Holmes Co., FL. Thanks, Max in FL.
A few notes on this family -- Sarah (Jenkins) Pate, widow of Isaac Lewis Pate filed for bounty land on his service in the War of 1812 -- She states they md Sep or Oct 1818 in Edgefield, SC; Lewis Pate died 1823 or 1824 on a trip to FL; Her maiden name was Jenkins, and she was b. 10 Dec 1791, (d. 2 Nov 1881); Their children were: Samuel B Pate, b. 6 May 1820, Charles R Pate, b. 5 Jun 1821; Bryant (dec'd by 1879); Julian Minor and Emeline Lewis. The Sally Pate in 1840 Sumter Co, SC is probably Sarah Jenkins Pate -- if so, the two daus, Julian and Emeline were probably already married, since there are only 4 males shown with Sally, and they COULD fit the ages of Samuel, Charles & Bryant, and there may have been another male that died young. I would not say Deany Lewis (1850 Forsythe Co, GA) and Emeline Pate Lewis are one and the same -- Deany from the 1850 census was b. ca 1831 and Emeline Pate was shown to have been born ca 1810-20; and at least before 1823/24 when her father died. Jinks
Jinks: To prime the pump- In AL51 you show that Charles R Pate md 2 times. 1st to Emily ---- and 2nd to Sarah (perhaps Hembree). Some questions- Could the Emily (1850 census of Forsyth Co GA) actually be a sister, Emeline Pate? You show Emeline, dau of Isaac Lewis Pate and Sarah Jenkins as md to a Mr. Lewis 1850 census of Forsyth Co GA, Dist 31, p 214A, site 968/968 shows: H W Lewis 25 b GA Deany Lewis 19 b SC Elsey W Lewis 2 b GA Emeline Lewis 6m b GA H W Lewis perhaps is a son of Elsey W or E W Lewis. What are your thoughts on this Deany Lewis being Emeline Pate? Finally, look at the index for 1840 SC. Was the Mrs Sally Pate in Sumter Co the widow Sarah Jenkins Pate? The name Bryant or Byrant Pate kind of makes me think of the Neuse River NC Pates as does the name Dean or Deans. Joel
Hello, Due to recent problems with MSN users not being able to receive Rootsweb mail I am not sure if I am still subscribed to this list. I am sorry for the interruption and hope you will understand. Rhonda Guilliams
Matthew Pate, b. c 1790, d. 1834 md (1) Unknown Matthew evidently had several children by a first marriage - one reseacher, Ernestine Collins, shows his first wife died when a daughter, Annie Pate was b. c 1815. Matthew Pate md (2) Jane Milliken-Pate (widow of his brother, Stephen Pate) Known Children: Elnatha Cain Pate, b. 10 Sep 1830, d. 6 Nov 1905 Matthew Pate, b. c 1832 The book "Dyer County & Newbern, TN" by Arahwana H Ridens shows that Mathew Pate & J Milliken reared three boys, Mathew and E Cain Pate and Mathew's step-son, Andrew Jackson Pate. Some read this to mean J Milliken Pate had ONLY 3 children - it could mean these are the only three they raised. There were 5 children who seemed to have been "farmed out" in the 1850 Dyer Co census M Pate (male) age 25 - b. c 1825 (Is this Matthew?) S D Pate (male) age 23 - b. c 1827 (Is this Stephen D?) E L Pate (female) age 20 - b. c 1830 Cain Pate age 19 - b. 1830 Amanda Pate age 15 - b. c 1835 Who did these children belong to? (Other than Cain, who was son of Matthew & Jane) There has been a lot of speculation on both these families - Stephen Pate & Matthew Pate - sure wish someone could come up with some answers. Jinks
Stephen Pate b. c 1785, d. Ace: There is a bit of information on Richmond Love Pate in Carroll Co TN prior to the 1860 census. He does appear in the 1840 census of Carroll Co. There were 13 people enumerated in the household. There were: 1 w/m 5-10, 1 w/m 10-15 and 1 w/m 20-30; 1 w/f 5-10, 1 w/f 10-15 and 1 w/f 50-60 the remaining 7 were slaves. Richmond L Pate does not appear in the 1830 census, however there is an R L Pate in the Weakley Co TN 1830 slave census. This could be Richmond L Pate and could indicate that he had land in Weakley Co. In the 1860 census of Carroll Co TN the apparent dau "A Pate" age 18 b TN is no doubt Apsley W Pate who married David Westcott Henry. If you have not done so, I would encourage you to study the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Carroll Co TN to see if you can spot your Henry family. The indexes for those two censuses indicates that there were 4 Henry family households in Carroll Co in each year. Would you have any information at all on this PATE line that you can share with me. I am primarily looking for info on the family back ground of my GrGrandfather and am writing you as you have such a vast amount of PATE information in the hope that maybe through the PATE connection some of that information may have drifted over.
