I am sending this to people who may be interested. The Public Record Office website has now got more than 700,000 wills proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury between 1670-1858 scanned and listed. Not all wills for the range shown have yet been included, but as the PCC was the senior probate court for England & Wales and there are so many listed you may find something of interest to you there. The index can be searched free, by name, place etc. It costs £3 to download a scanned image of each will selected (same charge however many pages). The link is: http://www.pro.gov.uk/online/docsonline.htm

Rhoda McGeorge, daughter of Lawrence McGeorge (b. ca 1761-d. ca 1828) and Mary Pate (b. ca 1775). I show her married 1826 in Bedford Co., VA to Creed Meador. She died before the 1850 census of Breckinridge Co., KY. Creed was a Baptist preacher who served in the War of 1812. I also have in my database a Rhoda McGeorge daughter of WIlliam McGeorge and Ruth Wright. There is a question mark next to her name that she is the possible daughter of Lawrence McGeorge and Mary Pate (above). This "second" Rhoda married 1839 in Bedford Co., VA to Robert Penn Wright. He died 1890 in Franklin Co., VA. Does anyone know if the Rhoda that died before the 1850 census was a Meador or a Wright? Are there any descendants of these families on the mailing list? Mary in CA
Hello! I am trying to help Scotland County's Heritage Book. Right now they are trying to get enough interest to put together a Heritage Book like most of the other North Carolina counties. Jinks For some reason I hung onto your email to the list. I guess the names interested me. Anyway .... I found Amster B PATE in the American Civil War Soldiers data base on ancestry.com. It says he was in the 131st Infantry Regiment Illinois, Company E. He enlisted on 13 Nov 1862. But what was interesting was that it says he Resigned on 3 Mar 1863. Since you were not sure whether he survived the war, at least he did survive and resigned. It doesn't say whether he was injured, but I am not sure it would have said he resigned if that were the case. Just in case you had not found this piece of info. :-) Carol
after re-reading your info, I have this to add: the "interesting" entry in the 1870 Pulaski Co, AR census would "probably" be Nathaniel b abt 1810 TN and his 2 youngest children. You guys are correct, about the Nathaniel's marrying mother and daughter. I am hoping that "someone" out there on the list might have more info. I would like to find the parents/siblings of the Nathaniel Pate b abt 1810 TN. Nathaniel Pate born abt 1810 would be my great-great grandfather. Meredith - think I told you I had corresponded with Ernestine Collins on this family years ago - she evidently knew several of the descendants and had some information from them -- Dyer Co, TN - Pate family - she says There was an old family cemetery at Bonicord, TN (said to be Susan & Jack's homeplace) that was ploughed up and markers thrown into the river, so it seems that Joe Calvin Pate, who compiled what records this family have, stopped there, having depended on the tombstone data to show him who the ancesters were. She goes on to say - One dau of Jack (Andrew Jackson) & Susan Pate, was Helen, who married a Dunlap and after the Civil War moved to AR - she had located a granddaughter, who had a Dunlap Bible with Pate data -- Ernestine also says she had a note from Linna Browder Jones (desc of Jack & Susan Thurmond Pate) -" the old home of Uncle Matt Pate had a family cemetery across the road from the house, John York Pate used to care for it. Uncle Matt had a son, called "Little Matt" and a dau, Annie by the lst wife who died when Annie was born; Annie died in childhood. Little Matt was a dentist, died a few years ago, had no children--" This part is confusing to me -- I have been to this cemetery on a visit to TN, and where I got some family records from Betty Nash -- and am not sure which one is "Uncle Matt" I did find "Little Matt" in a census recently -- 1910 Sebastian Co, AR Matthew W Pate age 46 - Dentist, b.
