I was in Atlanta yesterday at the GA archives, so I looked at the microfilm of the Wilkinson Co GA marriage records. It did not help clear the census mystery, other than the fact that B F Pate did marry a Laney Taylor 24 Apr 1867. Maybe the 1870 census taker just made a big mess of the family when recording all the people. The son Samuel may have died before 1880 census. I have received a certified death certificate for Carry E. Pate, dod March 8, 1922 in Dothan, Houston Co., Alabama. She is the daughter of James M. Pate and Carry Blackburn from Georgia. It looks like someone has changed the middle initial from E to C so I am not sure which it is. This is not my Carrie E. Pate born in Nebraska, so if there is anyone out there who would like to have this death certificate, please email me directly. Susan
I have found on the LDS FamilySearch.org website: Margaret PATE, b. 1780 - Washington, VA ---- " 3. FamilySearch" International Genealogical Index v5.0 North America ......." ----- We are seeking Margery Pate, b. abt 1782 VA/TN; marr: HOLLOWAY. Is anyone familiar with this MARGARET? She is the 3rd of 15 hits for PATE - PEIGHT - PIATT matches, but the only one spelled PATE and from VA. The other matches were from PA and NJ. Margaret could very well be "Margery" ?? Margery was still living in the 1860 Census, Pope Co, IL with her husband Minter HOLLOWAY (both living with daughter Ruth Moab HOLLOWAY -SISTLER and family. She and Minter's age listed as "77". Family Bible notes list Margery's parents as Mathew (with one T) and Daubgney, (or something similar to that). Margery's mother's name is illegible on the note. I am not in possession of and can not view the original writing in the Family Bible, and I do not know 'who' exactly wrote the notes before the Bible was sent off for repair. The notes were found folded in my mother's bible, and they are disintegrating even with very cautious and careful handling. We estimate the notes were written between 1950-1955. Margery (or Margaret) and John Minter HOLLOWAY were married about 1800 in probably Monroe Co, TN. They had 10 children listed in the 1830 TN Census. - Carol - -- *..· ´¨¨)) -:¦:- If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) -:¦:- still building--> http://thefamilywalter.com/index.html | 9000 individuals -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´ .·´ *Corell,Reichert,Wischhan,Hülsmeier,Reus,Saueressig,Rodewald,Bast,Burghardt,Rencken,Bach, -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´*Walter,Sistler,Palmer,Hall,Maxwell,Eisenhauer,Holloway,Harvey,Pate,Mitchell,DeHart ((¸¸.·´*

Carol, There seem to be several references to Joseph but the last is 1800. Then in 1808 he appears (and I don't find him again in Greene) in Northern Alabama and remember that a lot of Greene and Washington Co people flowed into this portion of Alabama , the Mississippi territory--if it is the same man. I have wondered because the Stephen Pate will of Madison Co Al (same location) refers to "my friend Mathew". Note the two "Joseph" mentions is Mrs Patton's note 1) thr first of 1800 550 acres of land on the Chucky-CPT Kesterson's Co 2) Mathew Pate with Charles and Joseph Pate show in 1800 in the Chucky River Tax District of Gr Co CPT WM White's CO. Note that she also lists Mathew Pate with Jeremiah and Thomas Pate show with 500 acres on Chucky River Gr TN 1798 CPT Wm White's Co. Two questions What do we know of Charles??? Henderson and Elizabeth Pate Clark name their first child Charles P. And why are you sure that Mathew Jermiah and Thomas are brothers? I would think that there is a good likelyhood that Joseph is not Mathew (although the South has a tradition of naming sons after Fathers and then calling the son the middle name !.) While it's correct that Mathew b.1738VA, had a son Jeremiah...he was born between 1775-1780VA, and may not be old enough at that time (1798) to hold legal title ownership...right? So, subject Mathew, son of Edward PATE & TINSLEY(?), had younger brothers Thomas b. 1743 and Jeremiah b.1745 VA. (To my knowledge, Mathew did not have a son, Thomas.) I wish I could answer your two questions about Charles?? and Elizabeth PATE-HENDERSON. I have neither one in my database....but, I have a note to keep an eye out for them. I got a very good 'tip' though from a prof-genealogist regarding my MARGERY PATE....he told me to re-search using both the name MARGARET and MARGERY. A friend had also mentioned to seek out ELIZABETH. The name MARGERY is a 'baptismal name" for both MARGARET and ELIZABETH......in the same category as all our "POLLY" (s). I feel rather inept...after all these decades of trying to find Margery. No one had ever mentioned that to me before. So far, there are no MARGARET PATE(s) who married HOLLOWAY. Oh, and hubby now suggests looking for MARY PATE, too, because Mary and Margaret commonly go together. Here we go again.!!! <smile> Did we ever find out if our Mathew's family were Quakers? In 1830 Anthony Pate and Absolem Miller were side by side in the census of Cocke Co, TN. Is this Absolem Miller related to William Miller of Dyer Co, Tn. William Miller's 2nd wife was Mary Ann Pate known as "Polly". She and Mathew Pate are declared to be 2 of the eight children of Stephen Pate. Meredith

Jinks, HOW INTERESTING! Do you know who the wife of Samuel Naill? Could you put the entire will and source on the list? As you know in the early deeds, James and Andrew Jackson are next to one another. It could be that "Carrey" is no longer living or that Carrey is one of those unknown sticks in the 1830 census who has moved on. or that he has mispoken and he means my five children. Are any other land parcels mentioned in Madison Co or elsewhere? Thanks Meredith PS Does anyone who is interested in Dyer Co remember a "Carrey" as a nickname? It should have read- Sabra Pate was the SISTER of Thoroughgood Pate who died 24 march 1836 and she was the DAUGHTER of Thoroughgood Pate who died in 1802. Sorry for the confusion Joel
This may help: Sabra Pate was the daughter of Thoroughgood Pate who died 24 march 1836 and she was the grand daughter of Thoroughgood Pate who died in 1802. Sabra Pate married George Wright. The following two paragraphs are from page 14 of a monograph entitled "Pate Pioneers on the Pee Dee River, Addendum to Addition IV" written by J. R. Peacock, DVM "The writer offers for the record that George Wright did marry Sabra Pate, they were the parents of eight sons listed in the cited records. No daughter reached maturity. Sabra (Pate) Wright was a sister of Thoroughgood Pate died 24 Mar 1836, who was a son of Thoroughgood Pate died ca. 1802. Therefore, Sabra Pate was a daughter of the same." "Sabra (Pate) Wright wrote her will 15 April 1844. It was proved in Court in July 1846, Richmond County. She named two of the sons proved to be sons of her husband, John and James." Dr. Peacock's research and conclusions are, in my view, both substantial and logical. His presentation of the evidence is persuasive. One Wright researcher suggests that there was a daughter of Sabra Pate and George Wright that did reach maturity. 1 Sabra PATE b: 25 DEC 1775 d: Bef JUL 1846 -+ George WRIGHT b: 1770 d: 27 SEP 1836 --2 Daniel P.
