Jinks: I think the middle initial is N or even Ne but not M. compare it to the Mary about 6 lines up. This guy started his M letters low (for the most part) The character here is started high. I see the 5 years I see what you mean about marital status. It seems like was M and then overwritten with S and came out, on quick glance as Wd. If he was single, it would given credence to a divorce. There is an Eunice Pate age 24 in Leavenworth, a single nurse at Evergreen Hospital, Delaware Twsp. She MAY be the Eunice Willoughby Pate I'm trying to find. I found the 1910 Sheridan Co WY enumeration after I had sent the message. George Newton Pate had at least two brothers- William Henry Pate who shows up in Weston Co WY in 1900 John Leonard Pate in the 1910 Sheridan WY (twice) not to far from his parents. The lock is the birth place of his mother. Where was George Newton Pate in 1920? Joel - in re-checking the 1900 Geary Co, KS census it COULD read that George M Pate, age 28, was married 5 yrs - and does not show any children - lives alone. Looks like they either wrote the "S" , single, over "M" , married, or vice versa, but the 5 yrs is there George N Pate is in the 1910 Sheridan Co, WY census, ED 105/p 8A, HH 16/17 and is living with his parents - don't have the 1920 WY but he is possibly still there Jinks

Joel & Joe - yes, William Pate md Nancy Compton are the parents of Minor Exle Pate -- William Pate's will recorded 28 Mar 1853 in Hancock Co, KY names wife, Nancy; Son, Minor E Pate; Daus Rhoda A Wagoner and Virginia Ann May. Minor Exle Pate md 8 Mar 1834 in Daviess Co, KY to Rebecca H May - they are parents of Rev Eldred E Pate who md (1) Sallie B Morton (they divorced) and (2) Emma T Thomas. Rev Eldred T Pate b. 21 Oct 1841 Hancock Co, KY d. 12 May 1917 was no doubt the son of Minor E Pate and Rebecca H May of Hancock Co KY. See 1850 census of Hancock Co KY page 300, site 486/503. He was listed as Elred E Pate age 9 b ca 1841. Minor E Pate and Rebecca H May were md 8 Mar 1834 in Daviess Co KY Minor E Pate was enumerated in the 1840 census of Hancock Co KY (page 012), however, there are no names in the 1840 census other than the head of house. Minor Pate appears in several early censuses, including slaves schedules, in Hancock Co KY. Nearby there was an older man named William Pate also enumerated. In the 1850 census we see this man again as William Pate b VA ca 1775 and his wife Nancy b VA ca 1780. There was a William Pate who married a Nancy Compton 2 Sep 1797 in Montgomery Co VA. Question: Were William Pate and Nancy Compton the parents of Minor E Pate b KY ca 1809? On a recent trip to Grovehill, Alabama and the Courthouse , I found documents that relate to someone I believe to be my gggreat-grandfather, John Pate. As nearly as I can determine, looking at the 1830 Clarke CO, AL census, he would have been 60-70 years of age, making him born between 1760 -70. I have documents showing that Thomas Moore, my ggreatgrandfather, married Winneford Pate in 1832 and he is buying up River land from the Heirs of John Pate dec'd on 3/5/1836: Mason Tyson and Elizabeth his wife, Thomas C. Johnson and wife Rebecca Tyson. It is my belief that these persons are sisters to Winneford Pate because in 1850 census, after Thomas Moore dies, Winneford is living in Marengo CO. next door to Thomas & Rebecca Johnson with two of the Tyson children in her household. Their father having passed away in 1837. That is not all, Thomas Franklin married a Mary Pate in 1819 in Clarke CO, AL and the Moores and the Franklins are very close families, showing as neighbors on at least two or more census.' I know that her marriage certificate says her father is Asa pate. But I believe that there is some relation between ASA and JOHN Pate. Either they are the same person or perhaps brothers. (My Great-grandmother Catherine C. Franklin was the daughter of Thomas B. Franklin and his second wife Mary McCorquodale and she married Thomas & Winneford Moore's son William L Moore.) Can anyone add to this information. Erlyne Moore Sherrill
In June 2003 I sent out a warning about a genealogy scam being operated out of Cedar Rapids, IA. The Internet scam was being run under several different names. genealogydevelopments.com familydiscovery.com genealogyfinders.com genealogyfinders.net aboent.com (perhaps Abodeely Enterprises) genlocator.com genseeker.com genseekers.com genealogy-express.com family-express.com GenealogyExperts.com Family genseekers Genealogygiants.com This news item was good news! August 1, 2003 Man Arrested for Internet Genealogy Scams! Elias Abodeely II of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the man behind several genealogy Web site scams, has been arrested and charged with 1st degree theft, identity theft, money laundering, and ongoing criminal conduct according to local NBC affiliate KWWL. Over the past three years, Elias Abodeely has taken advantage of hundreds of unsuspecting genealogists with Web sites such as FamilyDiscovery.com, Genseekers.com, and GenealogyGiants.com. His Web sites not only tried to make money by charging for links to information that had been freely posted on the Web by magnanimous volunteers on sites such as Rootsweb.com, but also billed people's credit cards after not allowing them to cancel their free trial memberships. Investigators claim that Abodeely's three-year genealogy scam netted at least $14,000, according to an article by Christoph Trappe in the Cedar Rapids Gazette. PLEASE: 1) Be very cautious about giving out financial or personal information and credit card numbers on the internet. 2) Obtain, install, activate and update virus screen software for your computer. Barbara: There was one dau of Henry Brown Pate and Nancy A Weir who was born after the 1860 census but who was not in the household in 1880 Katheryne Pate b 22 Jul 1864 ( Itawamba Co no doubt) I' sure that you have thought of these items before, but in case you had not, I'd suggest looking in Itawamba and Tishomingo counties for deeds, marriages records, graves, voter rolls, jury duty rolls, wills and estate administration and newspapers. Also check church and Sunday school records as well as pension files. While Henry Brown Pate may not appear as the principal party in some of these records, he may appear as a witness or bondsman. If he owned property in Itawamba before he relocated to Tishomingo, he would have, no doubt, sold it. He would also acquired property in Tishomingo. Unless these records have been destroyed, you should get some idea as to where he was and when. Joel Joel

Barbara: I suspect that Henry Brown Pate was not enumerated in the 1870 census. He was in Itawamba Co in the 1860 census and in Tishomingo Co in the 1880. It would appear that some time after the 1860 census and before the 1880 Henry Brown Pate and his family moved south into Tishomingo Co, which adjoins Itawamba to the south. Two items MAY give you some clues. 1st His son Christianberry Pate married Penelope Gillentin 26 Dec 1867 in Itawamba Co 2nd In the 1880 census of Tishomingo Co Henry b Pate was enumerated at Enumeration Dist 199, sheet 18, page 92, dist 92, site 141/141. His son Christianberry was at site 142/142 My GUESS - they moved down to Tishomingo Co after 1867, but before 1880. There were no county boundary changes between Itawamba and Tishomingo during that time period so they physically moved from one county to another. Henry B Pate age 72 was enumerated in the 1900 census of Tishomingo Co. Apparently with a second wife - Mary I think you may have information on the grave sites of Henry and Christianberry Joel ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Goree" <goree@tstar.net> To: <PATE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 20, 2003 7:12 PM Subject: [PATE] Henry Brown Pate > Can not find Henry Brown Pate in 1870 census in either Itawamba Co. or > Tishomingo Co., Miss. > Does anybody know where he was in 1870. > > Thanks, > Barbara > > >

Hello follow researchers, I was doing some research on another family line this morning and came across a mention of Sarah Pate in a will. I thought that it might be of interest ....the gentleman that died was named Frances Beckwith and he died abt 1822 in Marion Co., SC....this information was taken from.... http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/r/i/d/Brian-P-Ridgell/GENE261-0001.html I am hoping that perhaps this will help us identify a maiden name for one of the Pate wives.... Notes for FRANCES BECKWITH: Last Will and Testament of Henry BECKWITH IV Probate Record 1803-1845 Marion Co., SC, pp 141-142, 1822, LW&T of Henry Beckwith Henry Beckwith of the same State and District having been taken dangerously ill and not having a favorable opportunity to commist his will in writing did call in John Hamilton, Martha Hamilton, and Thomas Harlee as witnesses to his nuncupative will which was devised in the following manner. First to his belovd wife Mourning Beckwith, he gave and bequeathed on feather bed and furniture and four cows and calves to be chosen by herself out of his stock. One young sorrell mare and to live on the plantation as long as she chose and to be supported out of his property next year. He also loaned to his said wife Mourning, during her natural life, one Negro woman Dinah and at her death he gave the said Dinah to his daughter Martha Jane. Secondly to his beloved son Hansel Beckwith, he gave and bequeathed a Negro child wich his Negro woman Bede is now pregnant with if it hsould live to him and his heirs and apagres forever. Thirdly to his daughter Francis Ridgell, one Negro woman named Bede but not her child which she is pregnant with which is previously disposed of to son Hansel Beckwith. To his son Amos Beckwith he gave and bequeathed one Negro man named Ned, one Negro girl named Grace and one hundred dollars. He further bequeathed that all his debts which are owing to him should be collected and all his just debts should be paid and the remaining part of his personal and perishable property should be sold and the monies arising therefrom and all the monies arising from my Estate after paying his just debts to be equally divided (except one hundred dollars which he before bequeathed to Amos Beckwith) between his three children Hansel, Sarah Pate and Rhoda Henderson. He further gave and bequeathed after the death of his wife Mourning to be equalle divided between his two children Amos Beckwith and Martha Jane Beckwith all his lands whereon he then lived at the time of his death. Lastly he constituted David S. Harllee and John Hamilton executors of his last Will and Testament. The above Nuncupative will was made and declared the 13th of February, one thousand eight hundred and twenty two (1822) in the forty seventh year of the American Independance in presence of us who have hereunto set our hands as witnesses to the same this 16th day of February 1822. Oaths etc. need to be added. (Will Book #7 Page 141 Marion County South Carolina) I know that the name Ridgill is associated with Sumter Co, SC and wondered if the Sarah Pate mentioned is the Sarah from this area????? Any information would be greatly appreciated.... Also there is mention of the following Pates on this site... Richmond Co.
