    3. Ernie Two items- 1 I wonder if your Glenn B Kemp married the dau of William Rodgers and Vicey PATE Rodgers identified in the 1930 census as Docia Rogers. Docia is a nickname for Theodocia or Theodosia, a given name that recurs in the Robert F Pate family in the Pensacola area. Perhaps her name was Margaret Theodocia Rodgers or Theodocia Margaret Rodgers. Her age makes her the better candidate to be the wife of Glen Kemp. 2 Your Kemp family was up in Escambia Co ALABAMA, just north of Pensacola. The 1850 record makes me want to say that his name was William Randolph Pate. If the oft debated Anglo-Scots naming convention was at play in this family, and given the fact that the third son was a "Jr" it appears that it might have been, then "Hardin" is a candidate for Randolph's father's name. Is the Jesse in 1850 the Augustus in 1860? The given name Randolph may have come from an earlier Pate-Randolph marriage Moving forward to 1870 there are 5 households in near proximity in the Union City area of Obion Co TN that pique my interest- 1870 Obion Co Page 69 Union City, Site 72/72 Jesse Pate---------39 W/M b TN 1831 Elizabeth Pate-----40 W/F b TN 1830 William Pate-------20 W/M b TN 1850 Thomas Pate--------24 W/M b TN 1846 Luke L Pate--------18 W/M b TN 1852 Sarah Pate---------11 W/F b TN 1859 Lucy Pate---------- 7 W/F b TN 1863 Martha Pate-------- 5 W/F b TN 1865 Robert Pate-------- 2 W/F b TN 1868 Page 69 Union City, Site 73/73 Daniel Pate--------36 W/M b TN 1834 Nancy E Pate-------30 W/F b TN 1840 Ane E Pate---------10 W/F b TN 1860 Mary E Pate-------- 6 W/F b TN 1864 Charles Pate------- 3 W/M b TN 1867 Page 70 Union City, Site 77/77 Thomas Pate--------33 W/M b TN 1837 Sarah J Pate-------27 W/F b TN 1843 Josephine Pate-----11 W/F b TN 1859 James H Pate------- 8 W/M b TN 1862 Laura Pate--------- 3 W/F b TN 1867 Alice Pate---------2m W/F b TN 1870 Page 70 Union City, Site 81/81 Harvy Pate---------50 W/M b TN 1820 Lucy Pate----------40 W/F b TN 1830 Are Hardin in 1850, Harding in 1860 and Harvy in 1870 the same man? 3. Diana - this is my direct line - these Pate's were in Smith & Jackson Cos, TN - came there from Bedford Co, VA. The suit actually started in Bedford Co - and Anthony Pate seems to be related to Uriah Stone in some way, which I haven't figured out. I found this info on a scrap of paper in the Nashville Archives - and have tried to find something else on it, but so far have had no luck Jinks

    1. [PATE] Company A, 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion
    2. Joel Pate
    3. John: Back in October you posted an inquiry (message #2618) on the PATE venue at GenForum regarding three PATE members of the 6th Mississippi Cavalry (Confederate). The three: William Pate John Pate James Pate The Consolidated Confederate Roster has service card images for: William Pate Company A, 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battn. John Pate Company A, 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battn. James Pate Company A, 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battn. I would suggest that you go to the Internet source where you found the roster and see if this unit, Company A, was principally recruited from Tishomingo Co MS. If so, I would suggest that PEHAPS these three MIGHT POSSIBLY be brothers, being the sons of Jackson and Mariah Pate of Tishomingo Co MS. A review of the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Tishomingo tends to support this SPECULATION. 1850 Tishomingo Co MS Page 1, District 4, site 4/4 JACKSON PATE 45 W/M TN 1805 MARIAH PATE 36 W/F TN 1814WILLIAM PATE 13 W/M AL 1837 MARY PATE 11 W/F MS 1839JOHN PATE 7 W/M MS 1843JAMES PATE 5 W/M MS 1845 [Mary Jane Pate perhaps md Billings] William Pate PERHAPS was James William Henderson Pate who married Rebecca Washburn 28 Sep 1858 in Tishomingo Two 1860 Tishomingo Co census enumerations- Page 452, Burnsville Twsp, site 3043/3043 MARIAH PATE 47 W/F VA 1813 JOHN B PATE 18 W/M AL 1842 JAMES M PATE 14 W/M MS 1846 [Perhaps wid/o Jackson Pate see 1850] Page 452, Burnsville Twsp, site 3045/3045 WILLIAM H PATE 23 W/M AL 1837 REBECCA PATE 21 W/F MS 1839 MARY J PATE 1 W/F MS 1859 [Perhaps James William Henderson Pate and Rebecca Washburn md 28 Sep 1858 Tishomingo Co] I can find no further trace of these men in the Tishomingo and Itawamba Co censuses. Just a GUESS, but I think they were all GTT. Go back to the Consolidated Confederate Roster for another look and you will find a service card for a C L Pate Company __, 6th Mississippi Cavalry Battn. I SUSPECT that this was a man named Christianberry Lee Pate who was born, probably in Itawamba Co MS in 1847. He was later in Tishomingo Co 1900 CHISSOM B PATE 52 W/M MS 09/1847 ED 116/20 TISHOMINGO - BEAT 5 1880 CHRISON T PATE 32 W/M MS ED 199/18 TISHOMINGO - BEAT 5 1860 CRESENBERY L PATE 12 W/M MS ITAWAMBA CO P 224 RYANS WELL site 1485/1485 I have some notes that indicate C L PATE or perhaps his widow applied for a Confederate Pension in 1913 from Tishomingo Co. C L Pate perhaps died in 1911 and is buried in Tishomingo Co C L Pate was from the Tuscaloosa AL Pate lines. This rather spotty and unproven military record does support the speculation that Tishomingo Co was a principal recruiting area for the 6th Mississippi Cavalry Bttn. Merry Christmas Joel

    3. Kim, I lost your email.........got a lead on Zue Pate! Jim Davis jipa@olcwireless.net is married to Zue's great great grand daughter and has photos taken 1916 of the five Pate sisters. He wants you to join in on this chase along with us. You might want to contact him? For the list, Missouri Pate is my grandmother's sister. (Carrie Pate ) Zue abandoned her family and ran away with a Pentecostal preacher named Dave West. Now we need to 'find' records, possibly in the Wichita Falls, Texas area? I know there is at least one other of us out there, and the fellow I am in contact has much info on the Hagain family.......that was Zue's offical married name. Don'tcha just love the Internet! Happy Holidays to all, ear in California earphoto@inreach.com
