I have been seeing a good deal of new activity on this site. I am still looking for someone to find my given name - Pacia - in the Pate genealogy. Please keep looking for this for me guys and gals! Thanks a bunch. Pacia Jane Pate Brown
Grace: Thanks you for the kind words. I'm not really an "authority" on all of this. That recognition best goes to Jinks Pate Lee. When I use notations like "AL25" it comes from the work that Jinks has done. Her AL25.1 chart is inserted below. In other charts Jinks reports that Newell W Pate was perhaps a son of Thomas Pate. If you have a chart of the descendants of John Wiley Pate (1864-1844) and Sarah Kornegay, please post it. Also if you have data on Pate AND allied family burials in Dixie Cemetery in Grayson Co TX, please share that. Rebecca & Grace & Joel, Pardon me for jumping in here. I noticed two surnames that I have in my STUBBLEFIELD family, both PATE AND BELL. I have in my STUBBLEFIELD FAMILY: JOHN S. STUBBLEFIELD & BETHENIA BELL'S daughter: Bethenia Stubblefield b: c.1865 TX m: 24 Aug 1882 in Franklin Co., TX to Nash Willoughby Pate b: 15 Aug 1860 Holmes Co., MS D: 25 Aug 1937 TX (his parents: Noah Pate b: c.1842 m: 28 Jul 1859 Richmond Co., NC to Mary Jane Covington b: c.1843?........I believe both Noah Pate and Mary Covington were from Richmond County, NC) P.S. Mary Jane Covington Pate married James Craton Carroll (son of John Wesley Carroll and Hulda Hearne) on 8/10/1865, so it would seem that Nash Willoughby Pate was the only child by Jane's 1st husband , and Nash's father Noah W. Pate was probably killed in the Civil War serving CSA duty in Mississippi after the 1860 census and before the above marriage for M.J. Covington Pate. I have information on the children from Mary Jane Covington Pate-Carroll's last marriage. Nash Pate & Bethenia Stubblefield children: Alvin (Guy) Edward Pate (1883) Lamar, TX d: 1957 Charles Edwin Pate (1887) Franklin, TX d: 1964 Dalbert W. Pate (1889) TX Ola A Pate (1892) Clarendon, Donley Co.,TX d: 1962 Gus Carlton Pate (1899) Tell,Childress Co., TX d: 1918 Oscar Willie Pate ( 1904) TX I would be interested in sharing BELL & PATE information. Lindy The west half of Monroe county was taken to form Pike county in 1822. Pike remained unorganized until 1824 at which time the south half of it was taken to form Upson county. The only Edward Pate I've found in this era (1820-1830) was an Edward Pate in the 1820 Morgan Co. There was, perhaps another Edward Pate in GA at the time, but there are no census record on him. There are some census and guardianship records that indicated that he probably died before 1830, his wife's name was Mary and they had three children. Elizabeth, Joseph and Abner Pate. Mary, the widow, and sons Joseph and Abner appear in the 1850 census of Harris Co GA. Jinks, I think you may have hit the wrong button. Don't we all have things like this. I have two eight foot doors being restored and the men have not only made them worse --they don't close and the finish is uneven and muddy and this is after the coastal winds blowing junk through the house and let me tell you about the artist that was staying with me who broke the mirror off the car and sent me $25. I think someone up there is sending me a message! Get back to research!!! Meredith PS I am laying in wait for them even as we speak--the men that is! Well, thought I was on the down-hill slide at work, just working Friday's now, but when I got there yesterday, she had saved all the bills, receipts, etc for me to do!! So, I did all weeks' work in one day. Took me two hours to reconcile the bank balance. I informed her I was not planning to come in on Fridays to do her work. Think Mike is about ready to fire her too - she's left the safe open several times, and stays on the internet checking her e-mail. I still think she will be o k, if I can impress on her work comes first! Other than that, nothing new. Later, J
The legal shorthand "fi fa" is from the Latin term "fieri facias". Basically it was a court order to "let this be done". >From English common law. Widely used in Colonial and post Colonial Georgia Akin to a more modern Writ of Execution or Sheriff's Execution. All ordering the sheriff to seize some property, real or personal, sell that property in a public auction and pay the plaintiff who has a judgement against the property owner. Interesting that the 202 1/2 acre lot, # 54, in 6th District of Henry Co, property of Aaron Pate, was seized and sold for taxes. Aaron Pate was named in a large number of "fi fa" executions in Henry Co, but usually as the Deputy Sheriff assigned to carry out the "fi fa". Aaron Pate of Henry Co won two lots, both 202 1/2 acres, in the 1827 Georgia Land lottery, but the properties were not in Henry Co. Joel
