Searching for ANY information on Pate/Stuard/Stewart From Tennessee to Missouri prior to 1851. Leroy Pate and Mary Stewart were married in 1853 in Buchanan County. Buchanan Co., MO 1860 Census Ray Pate age 43., Mary Pate age 35, Sewel W. age 6, Trousdale age 5, Winfield age 2, Vacso and Viola age 1, Sophronia Stuard age 10 Hannah Stuard age 51. All the adults were born in Tennessee and the children in Missouri. I have a copy of land survey for property that Leroy Pate bought in Sugar Lake, Missouri in 1851. Leroy Pate dies in 1862. (Can not find where he is buried) Mary is named executor and on probate it lists Sophronia along with the other children as her children. Apparently Leroy adopted Sophronia as her marriage certificate says Saffronia Pate to Columbus Keene in Buchanan Co., MO. Saffronia (Sophronia) Pate Married Columbus Keene in Buchanan County, MO in 1865. I also have copy of papers from a law suit that Vasco Pate, Viola Pate and Trousdale Pate file in 1899 for the property of Leroy Pate. Mary Pate died in 1897, and can not find where she is buried either.) It says that Saffronia's (Pate) Keene's children have no rights to the property as the ONLY living relatives of Leroy is Vasco, Viola and Trousdale Pate. (It must have been nasty!) Then I found Columbus Keene is appointed guardian of his children in 1890. I have a Funderburk connection that with Sophronia and Columbus' son George W Keene married a Maggie May Funderburk. THE ONLY thing I have on Maggie May Funderburg(k) is her death certificate with her father as George W Funderberg and mother Fernity or Furnneta Yocum. The first name is very hard to make out. Any information to help me shed some light would be sooo greatly appreciated! ~Debby Moulden-Frerichs~ Researching the names ~*Keene, Waters, Parks, Robson, Hopewell, Yocum, Pate, Funderburk(g) , Stuart, Moulden, Turley, Randel, Fowler *~ http://home.mindspring.com/~debby11/index.html
I recently posted an Obit for Ozella Blanch Pate Tindall and I have since noticed that there was 1 error in the obit. The obit lists her Daughter as "Beth" and in should be "Becky". Her Daughter's name was Rebecca Sue and she went by Becky. Just trying to keep the records correct for anyone following this line. Carolyn

Hi Sharon and Jinks, Nice to hear from you two. Jinks - I've actually written back and forth to you directly prior to being on this mailing list. Thank you for all the info you have given me. My Pate line is in Texas. Elizabeth Pate was born about 1840 in Clark co MS, and her family moved to Leon county TX. Elizabeth's husband, William D. Wornick, was born in AR about 1842, and his family moved to Leon county TX. Soon after William and his family arrived in TX, his parent's each died within a few days of each other in 1857 , leaving orphans, the eldest was William about age 15. The children were then separated among several different relative families (Bond, Terry, and McMillan). The 1860 census below shows that Elizabeth and William were neighbors. If any of you in Texas could help me fill in any blanks I would appreciate it. I can't find marriage records on William and Elizabeth, as the court house burned down. I haven't found cemetery records for either of them, nor do I have their birth or death dates/places. Thank you, Rebecca

Sorry to jump in but could William be the brother of Benjamin and Delighter Pate? If this is my line of Pates from Holmes co. there was a William, Alexander, Benjamin and James and I don`t know anything about William. Barbara
From the Log Cabin Democrat, Conway, AR Mrs. Maxine Pate Brady, 77, of Vilonia died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2002) at Conway Regional Medical Center. Born March 29, 1924, in Sharon, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Elva Mae Padgett Pate. The widow of Odas Leon Brady, she was a seamstress, a housewife and a member of Vilonia Landmark Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Day of Tulsa and Debbi Manning of Vilonia; one son, Johnny Brady of Vilonia; two sisters, Marie Smith of North Little Rock and Louise Saddler of Conway; one brother, Johnny Pate of North Little Rock; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two caregivers, Denise McElhaney and Patricia Paul. Mrs. Brady also was preceded in death by one sister, Ellon Bush, and two brothers, James Henry Pate and Herrod Pate. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, with Bro. John Powers and Bro. Robert Archer officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Forrest Keathley, Danny Bishop, Roy Gunter, Melton Clark, Howard Williams and Wendell Gibbs.
Recently I received an inquiry regarding Delighter Pate. The Inquiry and my reply follow. Inquiry: I'm trying to get back into my Pate line. I would like to know if any of you know if the William Pate listed on the Dawes Indian Roll is the father of Benjamin & Delighter Pate from Thomas County, GA. Please advise My reply- It is my understanding that Delighter (Delilah) Pate was born 6 Jul 1825 in Thomas Co GA was the daughter of Zacheus or Zachariah Pate and Elizabeth Humphrey. Delighter Pate married Richard W Singletary 21 Oct 1841 in Thomas Co GA. In the late 1840's several Pate and allied families in the Thomas Co GA area relocated to the Dale Co AL area. Zacheus Pate and Richard W Singletary were enumerated in Dale Co AL in the 1850 census. I am convinced that Benjamin Pate was in Dale Co in 1850 but was not counted in the census. Two sons of Zacheus Pate, Alexander Pate and Joel Bennett Pate also moved from Thomas Co GA but they went into the Washington-Holmes-Calhoun Co Fl area about 15 miles south of Zacheus. Richard Singletary and Delighter Pate named their first born son James Zacheus Singletary. In my view Delighter Pate and Benjamin Pate were the children of Zacheus Pate. Joel

David: Abstracting the obituary: Evelyn Burt Pate age 82 died 26 Jan 2004 Evergreen, Conecuh Co., AL. Lifelong resident of Conecuh Co., AL Survivors: Husband of 63 years-John Henry Pate (md ca 1941) Sons: Larry Pate (Eva) of Belleville, Conecuh Co., AL Jerry Pate (Bobbi) of Burnt Corn, Monroe Co., AL Daughters: Joelene Dean (Jerold) of Burnt Corn, Monroe Co., AL Judy Powe (Mack) of Camden, Wilcox Co., AL Barbara Holt of Jackson, Clarke Co., AL Nancy Davis (Ronnie) of Brewton, Escambia Co., AL Grands: 11 Grandchildren 11 Great grandchildren Brother: Charles Burt of Montgomery, Montgomery Co., AL Evelyn Burt Pate was born ca 1922. The only census window available for her would be 1930. See David L Burt (Hattie) 1930 Conecuh Co., AL, Enum Dist 18-3, sheet 9A, Mill Precinct, site 148/155. Household has Evelyn Burt age 9y and Charles E Burt age 1y 2m. It is reasonable to conclude that John Henry Pate is equal to or older in age than his wife. I can't find a John Henry Pate in the 1930 census of Conecuh Co., AL, but it does not necessarily follow that he, like his wife, has been a lifelong resident of Conecuh Co., or even south Alabama for that matter. There are multiple possibilities in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, but too many to reasonably speculate.
